Working For Diluc - Chapter 10

It's the next day. Y/n is waiting at the bottom of the stairs for Diluc. She is shaking and has a pad of paper and a pen ready to write anything down. She looks around the corners to see if she can see him. He then bursts through the door and walks quickly towards y/n.

Diluc: my study, now!
Y/n: y-yes sir!

They quickly walk towards a room across the hall. It opens up to a large room with shelves of books, a large desk, and a sitting area with a table that had a tea set on it. Diluc sits behind the desk, and y/n sits in a small chair in front of it.

Diluc: I have some events to attend to tomorrow and I need you to make note of them and remind me where I need to be and at what time
Y/n: yes sir
Diluc: 8 am check up on staff at Angel's share, 10 am meeting here with business men about the funds of the winery, 2 pm pay the workers at the winery, 5 pm dinner with Fumiko-
Y/n: Fumiko? Who's that?

Y/n stops writing when she hears the last topic

Diluc: that isn't any of your business
Y/n: s-sorry... I just wanted to make sure I got all the details right for future...
Diluc: she is my fiancé if you must know...
Y/n: fiancé?! I didn't know you were engaged?!
Diluc: yes! Now can we get back to business?!
Y/n: yes master Diluc...

Diluc POV

I was afraid she would question that last statement... I guess she was going to find out about it sooner or later. I really didn't want more questions about Fumiko. So I tried to get past it as soon as possible. We continue talking about more arrangements and meetings through the next week. She clearly has no idea how hectic my job is. I asked her to pour me some tea and get my lunch from the kitchen. Once she returned I excused her whilst I ate.

Your POV

I left Diluc's study to get my own lunch. I was already feeling so self conscious around him. He made me feel so small. Was he like this to all his workers? He must take it all so seriously this winery. And he's engaged? How have I only just found out about that? I guess I'm just someone he works for now. Business don't tend to work with personal lives. Once I finish my lunch I head back to the study to see if Diluc wanted to continue discussing his work. When I enter the room I see one of the workers there taking his plate away

Diluc: thank you Silvia

Oh so he's nice to her? What the fuck?! So is it just me he is so rude to? Maybe I'm just overthinking it. He probably knows her a lot better then me. For all I know they just get along very well. Still it did hurt seeing a worker get more respect then me. Arent assistants supposed to be the person you have the most respect for? And know more so? I'm not that sure honestly. I guess that's just something I played out in my head. I sit back down ready to work again. We continued with his work until the end of the day. When I was about to pack away my notes and everything I got out of the chair

Diluc: before you go back to the room... I still need to use it. I need to get in the bath... so I suggest you return later
Y/n: yes sir... I'll go to mondstadt for dinner and return there later
Diluc: good, now leave me be

I was about to leave but his tone was just uncalled for

Y/n: please...
Diluc: what?!
Y/n: please. It doesn't hurt to have manners master Diluc!
Diluc: excuse me?!
Y/n: you're excused!
Diluc: you think you're funny?!
Y/n: no, but there's a difference between strict and rude!
Diluc: I don't care for your tone!
Y/n: and I don't care for yours! I don't mind the hard work... I don't even mind you pushing me to do a better job. But I won't tolerate rudeness
Diluc: you are in no position to make any demands!
Y/n: hmph I hope you and your future bride are happy together!

Y/n storms out of the room with her things and closes the door. Diluc looks back at the door. He punches his desk and looks down at it. He leaves the study to go back to his room. Y/n is in Mondstadt and finished eating dinner at the Good Hunter. She is about to head back to the winery and sees Kaeya again.

Kaeya: we have to stop meeting like this
Y/n: oh hey Kaeya
Kaeya: how is working for Diluc?
Y/n: I may or may not have snapped at him...
Kaeya: oh so a great start?
Y/n: you could say that...
Kaeya: what happened?
Y/n: he was just being rude... He was very harsh with me... and impolite...
Kaeya: he was? I know he's hard working... but he isn't usually rude to his staff... one of the good things about him honestly...
Y/n: ... oh... well that makes me feel special...
Kaeya: he probably just wanted to toughen you up for the position?
Y/n: I-I don't know... he might just be stressed about the wedding
Kaeya: w-what wedding?
Y/n: well his?
Kaeya: he is getting married?! To who?!
Y/n: some girl named Fumiko?
Kaeya: y-you're kidding?! Why didn't he tell me?!
Y/n: I don't know? I thought he was just an acquaintance?
Kaeya: I-I guess we are... I guess I'm not important enough for him to tell... I'm sorry to cut this short but I have matters to attend too
Y/n: um ok b-

Kaeya left before y/n could finish. She was confused as to why Kaeya was acting so strange. Instead of thinking more about it she shrugged it off and went back to the winery. Again she had to climb back through the window. Luckily Diluc wasn't still there in the room. Y/n sat down on the bed and looked at the notes from today, and looked down at the name Fumiko. And thought about what she last said the Diluc. She knew that tomorrow she would most likely get fired, and kicked out of the winery as a whole. She laid back onto the bed and raised her hands over her eyes, embarrassed as to what she said to Diluc. She regretted speaking her mind. Thought about apologising to Diluc and that she was probably no better then him.
