Part 10: The thief

"Haaaa...Haaa...."

Running down the Slums is a tried looking Subaru, His clothes and face are drenched with sweat and he was gasping for air using his mouth

"How persistent are these guys!"

Subaru looked behind him and hoped that what he expected to see wasn't there but...

"Oi there he is!"

It was the three thieves, the group people that Subaru never wanted to come across

"You aren't getting away for what ya did to us ya scum"

"What are you talking about I wasn't even the one that humiliated you all!"

The mushroom haired man stepped up said

"It doesn't matter! now come here and give us your stuff!"

Subaru then ran faster and shouted

"Oh come on please just leave me alone!"

To explain the situation quickly, Subaru was on his way to the loot house and as he turned to a corner, he saw the three thieves sitting down and hanging out

They made eye contact for about 5 seconds before Subaru's body moved faster than his mind and he ran as fast as he could

And that's what led to this situation

"Come back here!"

"Shit....."

Subaru gained a bit of distance from the three but he knew that they could still catch up, he had to go to a safe location as fast as possible

Subaru ran faster and faster until he saw a fork in the road, he stood still for a moment and pondered on where should he go

"Left or right? Damn...."

Subaru was following his instincts which were telling him to go left but then he heard a voice

"Over here!"

"Huh?"

Subaru heard a voice that was coming from the right path, He turned in the direction of the voice and saw a familiar person he recognized the short girl with golden hair and crimson red eyes, it was the one who stole Emilia's insignia

The girl seeing that Subaru is lost in thought said

"Your running from those guys, right? then taking the left path is no good"

"Huh? why'd you say so?"

"Because it's too safe"

"Isn't that the point?"

The girl gave out a sigh and said

"Is it your first time here? It's true that the left path is the correct choice but that's from an outsiders perspective, those guys who are chasing you would also know that you're going to choose the safest choice, in that case, they wouldn't expect someone like you to take the dangerous way right?"

"That's...."

'That's some weird logic' Subaru thought 

The girl didn't wait for Subaru's response and dragged him into the right path

As they were running Subaru found it hard to keep up with the girl which is he found pretty strange, 'was it because she's small?', Subaru thought for a moment but quickly discarded the thought 

They ran and ran until they reached a location that Subaru wasn't familiar of

"This is....."

Subaru looked around. the place was filthy had trash scattered all over the place, there were a bunch of drunks drinking their life away as well as beggars who wore nothing but dirty and torn-up rags. the river in which the water flows is colored black and was filled with garbage. Subaru had been on the slums with Emilia before but what they saw wasn't this bad
