"Good morning, gentlemen! Please take a seat, how may I help you today?" Percy said with the best confident voice she could muster. She had turned her eyes to forest green when those four boys came walking in with Dila in lead. She hoped her disguise would fool them enough not to get suspicious, especially him.
Dick sat down directly in front of her and her heart sped up immediately. Puberty had definitely hit him hard, his facial features had grown more defined and the once scrawny boy was now a well-built man. Percy had not paid much attention to the Gotham vigilantes after she had left but she did know that Robin had taken on the mantle of Nightwing and was now working in Bludhaven, the sister city to Gotham.
She recognizes the rest of the four males; Tim, Jason, and Damian; the new addition to the family and the vigilante business. She hoped Bruce and Alfred were doing fine, she meant to tell them about why she left so suddenly but she backed down at the last second, it's better not to drag them into the world of monsters and gods...but either way they are in it now.
"So what do I have the pleasure of meeting Gotham's own princes?" She asked, organizing her files on the table and tried not to make eye contact with him.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Hale. We've read so much about you." The sound of Dick's deep voice brought back so many memories, Percy forced down the tears that are threatened to pour. If only that incident hadn't happened, maybe they'd still be together...
"Our father values your work very much. Your discovery of the deep ocean animals was nothing short of fascinating." Tim said with a general interest in his voice. Percy smiled at him. The easy-going smile made Dick, who was paying close attention to her facial expressions, suddenly lose focus.
The smile. It looked so much like her's. That sarcastic and troublemaker smile used to always make him weak. He'd give anything just to see her smile and hear her laugh again.
Snap out of it, Grayson! He scolded. It's your fault she was gone in the first place.
"I'm flattered," Percy said and Tim grinned. Damian rolled his eyes and Jason stifled a yawn.
"But I believe you all are not here just to compliment on my success in marine biology, am I correct?"
"Yes," Dick said, "Our father would like to offer his aid in your research and work. He believes you have great potential and that you could make this world a better place." And also he is curious about what type of person you are and what you are hiding with that very clean record of yours.
Percy's fists clenched under the table. No way is Bruce already on her track. Seriously? She had just shown her face last night in Gotham and he was not even there! Had he already seen through her disguise?
"I'm flattered by the offer," Percy answered. "To be recognized by the famous Bruce Wayne was something I would never have dreamed of." I'll have nightmares about this.
"We'll give you a few days to think about it, do call us if you are interested," Dick said getting up. "Thank you for your time, Miss Hale."
Percy stood too and shocked his hand, ignoring the spark that had passed through between them when their hands met.
"Of course," She said with a forced smile. "Dila! Will you please show these gentlemen the way out? Thank you!"
Dick looked back at the beautiful young woman, he didn't know it but his eyes held a hopeful look. "Will I see you again?"
Percy pursed her lips. "...It's all at Fates' will." She answered.
The light in Dick's eyes dimmed a little but there was a smile on his handsome face. "Until then, Miss Hale. Goodbye."
