Sorry for taking so long, my mental health really just went and took a swan dive down a flight of stairs and I've had to work on a big paper for school. Hope this makes up for it? This is a continuation of The Human Realm story.

(Luz's POV)

Although it's not the Boiling Isles, it's still home, and some of its kinda cool. As Amity and I walked toward the middle of town, we came across a 7-11, y'know, the gas station that has really good slushies.

"Wait, what's that?" Amity asked, pointing toward the convenience store.

"Oh, that's called a 7-11, it's a place humans can go to fuel their cars, or get small little foods. We can go in if you want?" I asked, and she glanced toward the shop nervously, then nodded in agreement.

As we walked in, I noticed the cashier gave Amity and I a weird look. I wasn't sure if it was because of her green hair, or the fact that we were still holding hands. Gay couples aren't that common around here, though I'm lucky Mami is so supportive of me. I snapped out of my thoughts and watched as Amity's golden eyes darted from object to object, trying to completely take in everything.

"It's all so, so colourful?" She said, though it sounded more like a question. We walked slowly through the isles of the shop slowly, until she stopped and looked at a bag of candy. "Gummy worms? I know we have weird stuff back on the Isles but we never ate worms. Do all humans eat this kind of stuff? Why are they two different colours?"

"It's not real worms, they're just candy. I think they're like, 90 percent sugar or something like that." I explained, looking at the list of ingredients on the back.

"Oh okay... what's sugar?"

"Here, how about we buy these and you can try some?" I offered.

As I paid for the candy, the cashier was still looking at Amity weirdly. "Your friend from outta town or something?" He asked, nodding over to her. She was staring thoughtfully at a bag of Doritos, it was kind of cute.

"Umm, yeah, you could say that." I replied nervously, just wanting my change so we could leave.

"Crazy genetics some people have," He passed me my change and we left. I was sort of hung up on the last comment. Surely he didn't think her hair was naturally green? Well, Ed and Em's hair is, but how would he know that?

We sat down on a bench by the side of the road, and I tore open the thin plastic bag. "Here, try one!" I held the bag out to her, and she smelled one of them before taking a bite.

"Woah," she said after she swallowed. "Why does it taste like that?" Her eyes became super wide as she reached for another.

"If you mean really sweet, then that's the sugar I was telling you about." I laughed as I watched her ears flap excitedly. Her ears, WAIT.

"Oh shoot! We forgot to activate the illusion glyph!" I reached into my pocket and pulled out the piece of paper. I uncrumpled it the best I could and put it on her forehead. "Hold still," I tapped the glyph and a small cloud of blue appeared. Once it cleared, her pointed witch ears had become rounded. She honestly looked kind of weird with human ears.

      "Did it work?" She asked

"Y-yeah, it worked alright..." I said, still trying to process the illusion.
