(Luz POV)

I didn't realize it had been so long since I left the Boiling Iles, almost two years. I want to go back so badly, to see everyone. Eda, King, Gus, Willow, and... Amity. Not a single day has gone by where I haven't thought about her, and what I never got to tell her. Even after all this time, I still love her. Not another girl has even come close to Amity Blight.

I've looked for the portal every day, but it's never there. I miss them all so much. I head to the abandoned shack in the woods behind my house every evening, just after it gets dark out. I figured that if Eda opened the portal, it would be at night so that no one would see me leave.

"Luz!" My mom called from downstairs. "Supper's here!"

"I'll be down in a second, Mami!" I told her. I looked out my bedroom window, toward the forest. "Maybe," I whispered to myself. "Maybe tonight. I know they haven't forgotten about me." I told myself this every time, but the more nights that went by, the less I believed it. I got up from my bed and nearly tripped down the stairs as I made my way to the kitchen.

"Are you alright Mija?" She asked, opening up a pizza box on the table.

"Oh, yeah, I'm fine, just stumbled a bit." I gave her a reassuring smile as I sat down. We talked about if I was excited for school to start again in a few weeks, how she was doing at work, just normal things people talk about. When we finished eating, I put the pizza in the fridge as my mom put the leftovers in the fridge.

"You going for your walk?" She asked. By now she was pretty aware of my schedule as well.

"Yeah, I'll be back in a while, see you soon!" I put on my white converse and grabbed my phone. As soon as I was out the door, I turned sharply to the right. I walked into the forest for a few minutes, careful not to get my shoes too dirty. When I finally reached the shack, I was met with disappointment once again. When I took a closer look, something looked... different. Some of the unnaturally large cobwebs were broken as if something had walked through them.

I immediately thought of Eda's palisman. "Owlbert?" I called into the shack, but no one answered. "Eda?" I waited and listened, but nothing made any noise. I took a deep breath, and for the first time in two years, I walked into the shack.

I coughed and choked as my footsteps caused clouds of dust to fly up into the air. Once a lot of it settled again, I looked behind me and saw two sets of footprints. One leading in, which would have to be my own, but there was another set, leading out? That would mean that whoever came through into the human world is still here!

"Oh no, whoever came is probably so lost right now! I gotta find them before they get too far!" I ran out of the shack and began calling out names. "Eda! Gus! Willow? Anyone!" When I ran down the old, rotting stairs, my foot broke through the last step, causing me to land flat on my face with a yelp. As I picked myself up, I noticed muddy footprints leading back toward the house. At least I know which way they went now!

"Hold on! I'm coming! I yelled again. As I ran through the forest, still calling out names, I realized Mom might hear me and start to worry. There weren't any more footprints to follow, I had no idea where they could've gone. I emerged out of trees and saw a figure standing under a streetlight. My breath caught in my throat as I realized who it was.

She was staring up into the streetlight with a confused look in her golden eyes. Her mint green hair was pulled back in her usual half up half down style. She was still in her school uniform.

"A-Amity..." I managed to choke out. I felt my knees getting weak just looking at her. She turned to look toward the tree line, then sprinted toward me like the fate of the world depended on it.

"Luz!" She gave me a crushing hug that lasted for at least a minute. It was like nothing else mattered, just me and her. When we finally broke apart, I noticed she had been crying.

"Are you alright? What happened? You can talk to me." I hated seeing her upset. It's like having to listen to a little puppy whimpering.

"I missed you so much, why didn't you come back?" She looked up at me with nothing but betrayal.

"I tried, I tried so hard. I came to the shack every day looking for a way back, but the portal was never there. I'm so sorry Amity. I-" I almost said I love her. "I... missed you too... How did you get here?"

"I might've borrowed the portal from Eda. I just needed to see you again." She gestured to the briefcase-looking item still under the streetlight. "No one else knows I came."

"I'm just glad I found you. You could've gotten lost, or hurt." I put my hands on her shoulders and started examining her for any signs of injuries. "You didn't get hurt, did you?"

"No, I'm fine. Though you could've been a little more specific about the directions you gave me." I looked at her in confusion.

      "Directions? what do you mean?"

"Remember? That one night, when you found me in the woods?"

I remembered all right, more clearly than I think she knows.

"Luz? Luz where are you?" Amity was wandering around near the owl house, shouting out for me. I was sitting up on the roof, where I was practicing different glyphs. She wandered into my view, but it was too dark for her to see me up there. I wrote out a bunch of light glyphs and set them all off, floating down toward her.

"Hey! Up here, Ami!" I called. "There's a ladder behind the house if you wanna come up!"

Once she was on the roof with me, she told me what was going on. "It's my parents again. They don't like that I'm hanging out with you a lot. 'The Blights only associate with a select few'" She said in a mock voice of her father. "It's so unfair! They did the same thing with Willow."

"Well, if you ever need to find me, just follow the lights."

"Yeah," I said, coming back to reality. "I remember..."

"So what are those?" She pointed back to the streetlamps. "You also didn't say which way to follow them!"

I laughed softly, as smart as she is, it's so cute when she gets confused. "Those are streetlights, humans use them to see in the dark," I explained.

"Oh okay," I knew she didn't understand, but it was nice to see that she was trying.

"My magic also doesn't work here. I don't know why though." I figured that out as soon as I got back to the human world when I tried to make some flowers for Mami

"Mine doesn't either, see?" She drew a circle in the air, but nothing happened.

"Weird... although, humans tend to get around pretty well without magic. Here, it's getting late." I said. "Why don't we go back to my house? You can stay the night if you want?"

"I'd love that," She blushed lightly. How was she still this cute?

Okay, so you guys are probably going to hate me for this and I'm sorry, but I have to turn this into two parts... As much as I wish I could keep it in one, I don't think it would be as good of a story if I cut it down. Hope you enjoyed it, and please keep leaving requests! This was a lot of fun to write and I love hearing all your ideas!
