Y/n POV (10 years old)
The clock tower rings as Albert walks to the carriage, its door being held open by the footman, as I quietly follow behind him. The sound of men talking catches Albert's attention, making him stop and listen in on their conversation. However, I didn't mind this since the sooner we got into the carriage, the sooner I would have to put back on the collar I despised. Not wanting to stare at the back of his head, I follow Albert's gaze and listen in on the three loud men.
"Hey, did you hear? Old Mr. Thompson's safe got broken into?" one of the men asks while the three of them look at a newspaper. I lower my head, trying to hide the guilt on my face as I lightly smirk.
'Oh, no. Who could have ever done such an evil thing?' I sarcastically think, almost making myself laugh out loud. I look back up at the men and resume listening in on their conversation.
"Yeah. They got away with all the valuables he had in the cellar," the second man says, earning a dry laugh from the third man.
"Heh, it was all the money he extorted for the poor. Serves him right," the man tells his friends as I raise an eyebrow. I didn't know exactly what Thompson did when I had my little discussion with the blonde, but any remorse I may have had completely disappeared as the words left the man's mouth. Watching the first man lean over to take a closer look at the newspaper, I took a sharp and deep inhale of the fogged air.
"Still, some bloke must have a smart head on their shoulders," the first man says as I slightly nod my head in agreement.
"They dug a side tunnel from the sewer to sneak in, right?" the second man asks as I see Albert move from the corner of my eye. Seeing that he was stepping into the carriage, I turn my body to follow, continuing to stay a foot or two behind him.
"Yeah, but 40 yards is no mean feat," is said, immediately making Albert freeze halfway in the carriage. Even though I couldn't see his face, the aura he was giving off told me he was in complete shock. I merely kept a neutral face as I grew slightly impatient.
"Lord Albert? Are you feeling alright?" I ask, trying my best to sound concerned. It wasn't that I didn't care for him, there was just no real reason to stand halfway in the carriage. "Do we need to call off the trip to the school?" I question him, scenarios running through my head. After a few seconds, I watch Albert step into the carriage. Following after him, I give a small nod to the footman and step into the carriage.
As usual, I take a seat across from him as he stares out the window, his right hand placed on his chin in thought. He says nothing as the carriage starts to carry us towards the school.
'He must have put two and two together,' I think as I glance at Albert every few seconds. His face slightly grows pale and a small bead of sweat forms near his temples. 'But you got to admit...' I start to think as I feel the carriage start to lightly throw me around. '... It's almost the perfect crime.'
-------
Albert's attitude didn't change, even when we did reach the school. He quickly walks to the entrance and into the school as I speedily walk behind him. 'Not everyone's as tall as you,' I curse Albert in my head before he pushes open the front doors and walks into the school. Squeezing past the closing doors, I try my best to keep my neutral facade on as my annoyance starts to overtake me. I stand beside Albert as one of the two women starts to speak.
