"I won," Sophie said as Dex walked into the café thirty seconds after Sophie had. "Now you have to take orders first."

"Yeah, yeah," Dex rolled his eyes. "I get it."

Sophie went to the back and put on her apron and pulled her hair into a ponytail. She started cleaning the counter-tops and making the place look nice before people started coming in.

She made her way over the coffee machine to make sure it was working properly. She stuck a cup under the spout before pressing the button to turn it on. Usually, coffee would come pouring out of it.

But, today, that didn't happen.

"Dex," Sophie called, poking the coffee machine. "It's not working,"

"What's not working?" Dex asked, not turning around to face her.

"The coffee machine," Sophie said, clicking the button over and over again in hopes that it would suddenly work. "Coffee isn't coming out."

Dex walked over. "Did you make sure there was coffee in there?"

"That's Calla's job," Sophie said, putting her hands on her hips as Dex lifted the top to look inside the machine.

"There's definitely coffee in there," Dex said, putting the top back on. "Are you sure you did it right?"

Sophie blinked. "All you have to do is press a button and the coffee usually pours into the cup."

Dex sighed. "No, you're supposed to turn the knob first," Dex pointed to the knob on the side of the coffee machine.

"No, because that makes it turn cold instead of hot," Sophie told him.

"No, it doesn't," Dex argued, starting to turn on the knob and press the button. "It just makes the machine run better."

"That's not what Calla said," Sophie said, turning the knob back and pressing the button to turn it off. "She said that the knob makes it colder."

"No, that knob makes the coffee run out faster. It's the red nod that makes it colder." Dex turned the knob back on.

"They're both red," Sophie turned it off and made an exasperated motion.

"No, that's hot pink, and that's red," Dex explained, turning it on.

"It's red,"

"Pink,"

"Red"

"Pink,"

They went on like that for a long, long time. They screamed and argued about who was right and they continued to turn the knob back and forth.

"I'm telling you it's—" Sophie's yell was cut off as she pulled onto the nob, but instead of it stopping, it popped right off.

Coffee exploded from the hole that was now in the coffee machine and soon coffee came gushing out of the spouts.

Sophie and Dex screamed their heads off as they stumbled around the shop, trying to find something to stop the spewing.

As they panicked, the door opened and Calla walked in with a cheery face, "Good morning, how are you—oh my gosh! What happened?"

Dex and Sophie just continued to scream.

Sophie stumbled to the coffee machine, coffee getting sprayed in her face, and slammed her hand down on the on/off button.

Coffee stopped spewing everywhere and Sophie and Dex collapsed on the floor—which was flooded with coffee.

Calla walked over and looked down at them. "I want you two to go get cleaned up in the back, and then sit outside and explain to me what happened."

Sophie and Dex nodded. "Yes ma'am,"

"You're back from work early," Grady said as Sophie walked inside and sat on the couch.

"Yeah," Sophie sighed. "Dex and I broke the coffee machine and Calla said that she'd rather not see us for a bit while she cleans up the coffee shop."

"Ouch," Grady said with a grimace. "Well, hopefully you learned a lesson."

"Yes, I did," Sophie said with a nod. "I learned that Dex is most likely colorblind because I was right about them both being red."

Grady blinked. "What?"

"Nothing," Sophie patted Grady on the shoulder. "Don't worry about it. I'm just going to take a shower and go to bed."

"No dinner?" Grady asked as Sophie got up. "We're having spaghetti."

Sophie bit her lip. "As tempting as that sounds, I'm really tired."

"Okay," Grady nodded. "I'll tell your mom."

Sophie smiled before heading upstairs and getting ready for her shower. She made sure it was nice and hot before getting in and letting the water wash away all of the sticky coffee that was still her hair and on her body.

Afterwards, she changed into her pajamas, got under the covers, and snuggled Ella tightly to her chest, ready for sleep.

But, once again, the world didn't want Sophie to sleep.

Her phone rang, and when she answered the call, she recognized the voice as Dex's.

"Sorry if I woke you up," Dex said. "But Calla wanted me to let you know that we don't have to go to work tomorrow."

"Oh," Sophie said. "Why?"

"Well, I'm sure she still doesn't want to see us again," Dex chuckled. "But also, because it's taking her a little longer than expected to clean everything up."

Sophie frowned. "Well, doesn't she need help?"

"I asked, but she said she'd gotten her friends to come over and help her," Dex said with a sigh.

"Guess she really is mad at us." Sophie said.

"Yeah," Dex said, sighing again. "But hopefully there's not too much damage to the shop. If so, I doubt we'll be going back to work ever."
