after nini's breakdown they both stayed home the whole week. great way to start off the year. their parents talked things over with the principal. she was a nice older lady, she of course understood and let them slide. today was their first day back. ricky woke up extra early because he wanted to make sure nini was alright. "good morning dad" ricky said as he walked down the stairs. mike looked to his son with a confused face. "richard, it's 5:45 in the morning...why on earth are you awake and ready to go?" he asked as he turned off the stove setting a plate of eggs down. "oh, well with the whole nini thing i want to be there for her as much as i can.. i know she's been through a lot and that she suffers from a low self-esteem and i want to be there for her as much as humanly possible. especially since i was out of her life for almost a year" he said as he pulled on his shoes on the last step of the stairs. his father knew that his son was completely in love with nini, even when he was with alice. "ahh" mike sighed dramatically. ricky grabbed a bottle of water then looked to his dad. "what?" he said biting into an apple. "young love" he said facing his son. ricky turned cherry red. "shut up" he said looking to his feet bashfully. ricky cleared his throat, "i'm gonna get going now. since carol and dana are on a shift this morning nini's alone. and i hate that" he mumbled the last part. "do you know their schedule?" mike asked his son. ricky blinked wordlessly. "my gosh, you are so far gone rick" he said shaking his head. "bye dad!" ricky put the water bottle in his messenger bag along with his apple. he grabbed his skate board and waved goodbye. ricky made his way to nini's house after a bit. he obviously still had the key despite the break up. (he couldn't bring himself to give it back. he's had it since they turned 14, there was no going back). he quietly walked in slipping of his shoes, leaving his things by the door. he slowly crept up the stairs almost slipping. he breathed out once he realized he hadn't fallen. he walked in to see nini still sleeping. duh it's like 6 am. he sat on her desk chair admiring her from a far. he thought of all the memories they had in this room. his thoughts were interrupted though. "stop staring at me" he jumped at the sound of her voice. "how- wha- huh?" he said confused, she always slept with the blanket over her head, just like she was right now. she sat up still sitting under the covers besides her head. "i could feel you" she shrugged. "how- im across the room" he said with a very funny confused face. she laughed. "im gonna get dressed despite the fact that's it's 6 and school starts at 8-" she said jumping out of bed. he shook his head laughing. she went to her closet and picked out a looney tunes hoodie and some dark & light colored jeans with converse. as she was getting everything she felt ricky hug her from behind setting his head on her shoulder. "hi" he smiled. "hi" she said with a small smile as well. "did you know you're my favorite?" he said in a baby voice. she nodded like a child, "i do." she said falling into him a bit. "am i your's?" he said sighing into her shoulder. "most definitely" he barely heard her, but he did. he smiled. "ill let you get ready, i'll put something on netflix down stairs." she nodded. he closed the door behind him. she got ready singing "issues" by julia micheals. she didn't put her shoes on because they had around two hours till school. so she set her small converse besides ricky's. she giggled at the size difference. she plopped down next to him and threw herself into his arms. he gladly welcomed her and put his arm around her as she snuggled into him. "so, what'd you pick?" she said looking up at him then to the screen. "i cant pickkk" he groaned making her laugh. he held her a bit tighter. he kissed her forehead and she blushed. "let me pick" she grabbed the remote and started scrolling. "ooo how about 'the next step'" she said looking up at him. "that canadian show we used to watch?" he said looking down at her. she nodded. "go for it". they watched the next step for a while till they decided they didn't want to be late. they spent the whole day texting each other and making each other giggle during a lesson. ricky almost got caught. it was now lunch..ricky waited for nini to get out of AP math. "boo" he said laughing. she yelped as he scared her. "stop doing that" she groaned. "been doing it since the sixth grade neens, can't stop now" he said putting his arm over her shoulder. they walked to the lunch room. they saw all their friends at one table; they looked at each other weird. nini leaned into him a bit as they walked over to the table. "hey guysss" ricky said as he sat in between gina and nini. he set his hand over her knee rubbing softly. "big bro!" gina said giving him a side hug. "hey little sis". despite the whole nini-ricky friendship absence. gina and ricky and managed to stay remotely close, still having the title of brother and sister. just like when they were younger. "how's life" gina said popping a grape into her mouth. he quickly glanced at nini "uh, pretty good" he looked back at his 'younger sister'. "im watching you bowen" she glared at him. he laughed, "yeah huh". gina soon laughed as well. "sooo you and ashlyn seem clooose" nini said with a smile as she poked red's cheek. red shook his head. "is there something you aren't telling me? because as your honorary little sister this is very rude" she pointed a finger at him. they also had the title of siblings. "we're dating!" ashlyn said cutting him off. she showed their joint hands. "FAHSHFS ricky did you hear that?!" she said as her hand unwillingly flew to his, under the table. he squeezed her hand a little, "yep. they're gonna be all mushy now" he fake gagged. "puHlease, don't get me started on that topic" kourtney said gesturing to ricky and nini. they both turned a few shades of red staying quiet. "ewwww now they're all flustered. gross" carlos said shaking his head. the awkward air was broken by ej. "hey guys!" he said walking in with the new girl in his arms. everyone greeted him back. "this is stella, my girlfriend. im sure some if you have met her". gina tried very hard to ignore the pit that grew in her stomach. she stared at ej as he introduced stella. she then caught herself and looked down fiddling with her fingers. "im watching you porter" ricky said elbowing her. she looked up at him and let out a small laugh. "or should i say caswell?" he said squinting his eyes. she punched his arm. "shut up dude" she said shaking her head. "as you wish" he shrugged. they were happy. what could possibly go right?_________________________________
