My heart started pounding as the flash of my mothers head ran through my head, making me feel dizzy. My heart was beating so fast, my head was pounding, and all I could think of was her face. She was smiling and laughing. Marissa had her eyes on the television, laughing at the comedy that played along. Tears slowly began falling down my cheeks, burning. I quietly sobbed next to her with pain in my chest. Marissa looked at me with a smile on her face, her smile disappearing almost immediately. "Carly, what's wrong?" She asked with concern in her voice. More tears fell down my face at a quicker pace.

"I miss her." I slightly choked as I spoke while still sobbing but louder now. She looked down at me and frowned.

"Honey, come here." she pulled me into a tight hug, while turning the TV down and whispering, 'it will be ok' over and over again. My eyes became swollen and puffy after a short while, my head aching and my heart still pounding aggressively. I slowly began to calm down, sobbing quietly and my eyes aching. Marissa slowly circled her fingers on my back in soothing motions. We sat like this for what seemed like forever until she pulled away and smiled sweetly at me.

I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply, smiling back at her weakly.

"Thank you." I whispered in a barely audible voice. Before Marissa could respond an obnoxiously loud sound came from her, in the form of a fart. Her face reddened once she had realised what happened. I burst into a fit of laughter, wheezing and almost crying. Marissa smiled, laughing along with me, before letting out another loud fart, causing us both to laugh even harder. We sat there laughing until we were crying, both coughing every once in a while.
