"Mom, Dad, I need to talk to you about something..." Santana said quietly. She began to nervously twist her hair, chewing on her bottom lip as she stared at the ground.

"What is it sweetheart?" Her mum responded, looking up from the book she had splayed across her lap.

"I.... umm...." she continued, her breath now uneven, "I like girls mum." she spat it out as quickly as she could - rip off the bandaid. Though as soon as the words left her mouth, the room became silent. Santana looked up to see both her mother and her father staring at her with a look of shock on their faces. For what felt like hours, in reality only being a minute, her mom finally broke the silence with uncertainty in her voice.

"Are you sure? Maybe you just think you are because it's what's popular right now?"

"Yes, I'm sure. I find girls attractive."

"You're going through a phase. You're too young to know what you want right now!" Her father called out, shaking his head before continuing what he was doing. Her mother, on the other hand, smiled sweetly at her.

"It will pass in a month. You don't know what you want."

"No, it wont. I like girls! Is it that hard to understand?" She yelled, tears now rolling down her face very quickly. After her parents stayed silent for so long, Santana stormed out, running up to her room to sob quietly in her bed. Why don't they see? I'm their daughter, so shouldn't they accept me for who I am?

The next morning was uneventful, almost awkward. When she walked downstairs, her parents were dead silent. Not a word was uttered during breakfast, not even a peep. No one made eye contact with each other and everyone was awkwardly shifting about.

After breakfast, Santana got up to leave, grabbing her school supplies before anyone could stop her, heading to school on her own.

Her mind wasn't quiet for a second, racing with questions but no answers. Why? What did I do wrong? Was I supposed to keep this to myself? Should I have told them? Were they right? Is this just a phase? What's wrong with me? Should I have just kept my mouth shut? Should I just tell them it was a joke.?

Until, finally, she made it to school, the loud chatter of students walking past pulling her back to reality.

The day went on as normal, classes, hanging out with friends, rude comments thrown about and finally, cheerleading. After they had finished and Sue was done yelling, Santana knocked on the door to her office.

"Yes?" Sue responds with a cold look on her face.

"I was wondering if I could talk to you about something. Its really bothering me."

"Of course, go right ahead."

"Ok, well... I talked to my parents last night..." She began, tears welling up in her eyes, "and I told them.."

"I told them..." she was struggling to find the words, her shoulders shaking as more tears ran down her face.

"What did you tell them, Santana?"

"I told them... that I like girls..." she held her breath, looking up at Sue's face to see if she would show some sort of reaction. She didn't. Her face was completely blank as she waited for Santana to continue.

"And?"

"And... they told me... that it was just a phase... that it will go away..." Her sobs became more evident now as she covered her eyes with her hands. She could hear Sue get up, moving away from her desk and walking behind Santana.

"It's ok, don't cry." she whispered, patting her on the shoulders and pulling up a chair next to her to sit down. Santana leaned over, softly crying into Sue's shoulder while she gently patted her hair.

"What am I going to do?"

"You don't need to do anything! They will come around. And even if they don't, it's their problem. All you have to worry about is school. They are responsible if they decide they don't accept you. There are people here that accept you. That's all you need."

The next ten minutes were spent with Sue telling Santana that it will all be ok and Santana crying into her shoulder.

After a while, Santana finally calmed down and was ready to leave, she got up, heading towards the door.

"Thank you so much, I really appreciate it." Santana said with a small crack in her voice. Sue slowly made her way back to her desk sitting down to continue her work.

"No problem, have a nice day."

"You too."

And she happily went to class.
