Neurosurgeon, Lexie Stark, the adopted younger sister of Tony Stark, was injured during a hospital shooting and ended up with a trembling left hand. Because her surgery wasn't as successful as she had hoped she wasn't allowed to work at the hospital...
𝑻𝑶𝑵𝒀, Steve, Thor and of course Lexie walked side by side together, back at Stark tower.
"The rules have changed." Steve acknowledged.
"We're dealing with something new." Tony agreed, all of them exhausted from the recent events.
"Well, the Vision's artificial intelligence." Lexie tried to ignore the feeling she got in her stomach every time Steve's arm brushed against her own.
"A machine." Tony shrugged, dressed in his usual T-shirt, jeans and blazer. Thor and Steve were still in their uniforms.
"So it doesn't count?" Steve raised an eyebrow.
"No. It's not like a person lifting the hammer." Tony bickered.
"Right. Different rules for us." Steve gestured between them both.
"Nice guy, but artificial." Tony agreed. Lexie chuckled at the two men, who were actually agreeing on something for once. Neither of them wanted to accept that Vision, who was not a real person, could wield the hammer but they couldn't.
"Thank you." Steve nodded.
"If he can wield the hammer, he can keep the Mind Stone. It's safe with the Vision and these days, safe is in short supply." Thor noted.
"But if you put the hammer in an elevator..." Steve suggested.
"It would still go up." Lexie smiled.
"Elevator's not worthy." She giggled at Steve's comment.
"I'm going to miss these little talks of ours." Thor's chuckle boomed throughout the hallway as he placed a heavy hand on Tony's shoulder.
"Well, not if you don't leave." Tony offered.
"I have no choice. The Mind Stone is the fourth of the Infinity Stones to show up in the last few years. That's not a coincidence. Someone has been playing an intricate game and has made pawns of us. But once all these pieces are in position..." Thor began to explain as they made their way outside of the new compound.
"Triple Yahtzee?" Tony raised his eyebrows.
"You think you can find out what's coming?" Steve asked.
"I do." Thor nodded, "Besides this one, there's nothing that can't be explained." Thor patted Tony's chest where the reactor was before walking in front of the three of them. He lifted his hammer up as the bifrost took him back to Asgard, however if left a burnt circle in the grass where he had been stood.
"That man has no regard for lawn maintenance." Lexie shook her head in amusement at her brother, "I'm gonna miss him though. And you're gonna miss me. There's gonna be a lot of manful tears." He told Steve as they walked to his expensive car.
"I will miss you, Tony." Steve told the billionaire.
"Yeah? Well, it's time for me to tap out. Maybe I should take a page out of Barton's book and build Pepper a farm, hope nobody blows it up." Lexie agreed with him.
"She would love it." Lexie inputted.
"The simple life." Steve acknowledged.
"You'll get there one day." Tony was oblivious to the discreet look Steve sent Lexie's way.
"I don't know, family, stability. The guy who wanted all that went in the ice seventy-five years ago. I think someone else came out." Lexie looked down, before smiling at Steve sympathetically. Tony turned to get into his car but stopped to ask Steve, "You alright?"
"I'm home." Steve nodded.
"What about you Lex? Need a ride?" Tony asked his sister.
"I've decided. I'm going to see a therapist. Then I'm going to send an application to the New York Hospital." She admitted. It had taken her some thinking over and eventually came to the conclusion that it was for the best. She would be closer to Tony and the New York hospital was a good hospital where a handful of amazing surgeons worked.
"I'm proud of you Lexie." Tony brought her in for a hug. "You, me and Pepper - next week for dinner. I'll text you the details." He pointed a finger in her direction before climbing into his car.
"Wouldn't miss it Tones," she smiled, crossing her arms over her chest as he drove away. "So... you're moving to New York?" Steve asked her, curiously.
"I thought it would be better to start over. Fresh start." They all knew how Helen Cho had salvaged her hand to the best of her abilities. It meant Lexie could now perform surgery. She would be able to carry on doing what she loved. Helping people the best way she knew how.
"I guess you'll be seeing me more than you thought," she nudged his shoulder jokingly as they stood under the warm sun. Her bright smile brought a grin to Steve's face as he looked down at her.
"I can't say I'm complaining." Lexie blushed, wondering if he was flirting with her. She was never good at detecting when someone was flirting with her.
"I'll see you around Rogers." She smirked, leaning up to kiss his cheek as she had done before. "Whip them into shape," she grinned cheekily as she walked backwards slowly. She held a hand up in a goodbye motion before turning around and walking across the grass. It was about time she went apartment hunting.
