I found myself spacing out just staring into empty corners and walls. I should've listened when he said he wasn't feeling well.

"Mommy!" Alison chirped behind me.

"Huh?" I hummed while shaking.

She held out a piece of paper in front of me. "Do you like my drawing?"

I made a smile paint my lips. "It's beautiful."

She smiled. "Do you think Daddy will like it?"

"I-I think he would..."

"When's he coming home anyway? He's been gone for a long time." She questioned.

"Um..." My voice cracked. "I don't think he's coming home, baby."

Her face turned into confusion. "What? Why?"

"He's sick." I sighed shakily. "And I don't know if he's gonna get better."

"Well, where is he?"

"At the hospital."

Her eyes widened slightly. "What?"

I nodded slowly. "Yeah...I'm sorry."

She whimpered lightly. "But I-I wanna see him."

"I do too." I placed a hand on her back. "But I don't know if we will."

Tears suddenly fell from her glossy eyes. "No!"

I hugged her close to me as she sobbed intensely. I shushed her lightly and kissed her head.

"It's gonna be okay, honey," I reassured.

"I don't want him to die!"

I didn't answer her. This is gonna destroy us.

The kid's voices muffled in my ear as I rubbed my face. A hand shook my leg, making me snap out of my gaze.

"Mom, Mom!" Jayden pestered.

"Yeah?"

"Someone's here for you!" He smiled.

My face turned into confusion as I walked over to the door. My eyes widened as I saw Connie standing there.

"Connie?" I questioned.

She immediately smiled. "Ah! I haven't seen you in ages!"

I smiled as her arms wrapped around me tightly.

"Geez, you look amazing." She chuckled softly.

"You do too." I laughed back.

She gasped. "Are these your kids?"

"Oh, yeah." I nodded. "That's Alison and that's Jayden."

"You guys are adorable." She smiled down at Jayden who was hugging onto my leg.

"You're gorgeous!" Alison squealed.

"Oh, thank you, precious!" Connie grinned bigger.

Alison nodded with a smile and ran off with Jayden. Connie looked back at me.
