Chapter 76: Happy

MADELINE

I wake up as Steve carries me to my room. He's carrying me bridal style and I look up at him, watching his face as he walks. 

He's so beautiful. I have no idea how I was ever able to leave this man. 

Once he feels my eyes on him, he looks down at me, "Hey, you're awake." 

I yawn a little, "Yeah, for now. I fell asleep?" 

"Yeah you did, but it's okay. I'll carry you back to your room."

"Will you stay?" I ask as his eyes meet mine. 

He nods with a small smile on his lips, "If that's what you want." 

I curl my hand in his t-shirt, pulling myself impossibly closer to his chest as I close my eyes, "That's what I want." 

...

I wake up in the middle of the night as I feel the weight shifting around me in bed. 

I don't bother opening my eyes. It's probably just Steve needing to go to the bathroom. 

I don't realize who it is until I feel a strong body behind me and an arm around my waist, pulling me to him tightly.

"Bucky," I sigh as I feel him curl against me. 

"Hi doll. Missed you too much. Is it okay I'm here?" 

"Yeah, it's more than okay. It's perfect," I say as I reach for Steve's hand on the bed in front of me, lacing my fingers with his. 

I fall back asleep with the two people I love the most lying next to me. 

... 

As I wake up with both boys snuggled up close to me I feel something I haven't truly felt since I left.

Happy. 

Bucky's arm is still strong around my waist and Steve moved closer to me during the night, his face only inches from mine. 

I open my eyes to see his peaceful face as he sleeps. I love this man in front of me so much, it's almost painful. What I did to him was unforgivable, but somehow he managed to forgive me. To still love me. 

I feel Bucky stir behind me and I move my hand above his, lacing our fingers. He sighs in content in my ear as I do and kisses the sensitive spot right beneath my ear. 

"Morning, doll." He whispers, "Never thought I would be back here." 

"I knew you would," I reply with a smile, "Just didn't know how long it was going to take." 

He chuckles, "So you had this whole thing planned out already?" 

"Kinda," I reply as I mirror his chuckle, "I knew I wouldn't be able to stay away from you. It was just a matter of time. Just a matter of when my mind would let me." 

"Well, I'm glad your mind gave in." 

... 

A few days pass and I'm in complete bliss for the most part. 

I spend a lot of time in the lab with Tony. He studies me and my powers, making me use them to see the energy I'm exuding and what it means. 

"How you doing, Kid?" He asks me as he looks at his computer screen.

"I'm good," I reply with a smile. 

He looks me over, "See, I would believe that, but you also told me that last time and then you left. I hope you know to come talk to me next time you're in doubt or in pain. I want to help."
