Anna and Ellie and I walked downstairs and into the dining room to eat dinner and I sat down next to Anna and Ellie sat on the other side of Anna. We said grace because we're 'catholics' (we don't ever go to church because we "don't have time") and then we passed around the food. I reached for Anna's hand under the table and she took it. I looked over and smiled at her then I whispered to her:
"Should we tell them?"
"Yeah, but do it after dinner"
"Ok"
I went back to eating my food and my mom looked at me like she already knew that I liked Anna but was wondering what I said to her. Everyone made small talk until dinner was finished and before everyone went their seperate ways I said:
"Uh everyone, I have an announcement... um-"
I looked over at Anna and she gave me a little nod and a soft smile
"-Anna and I are dating"
"We already knew" Brandon blurted
Mrs. Shumate gave him a little smack on the arm
"What? Oh, I wasn't supposed to say that- sorry"
I laughed a little and my mom said
"Brandon's right, but I just want both of you to know that we will all love you both no matter what"
I smiled then everyone got up and went their seperate ways. Anna, Ellie and I went back up to my room and we kept just talking about school, watching TikToks and making fun of each other. My mom came back up to my room what seemed like 10 minutes later but she told us that it had been 5 hours and that both the Shumates and Pattersons had to go. We all went downstairs to say goodbye. I hugged Ellie and a minute later the Patterson's left. I hugged Brandon, gave Tommy a high five and I hugged Anna and gave her a kiss on the forehead. As soon as the Shumates left as well my mom turned to me
"I just want to say, I love you and accept you but-"
I got really nervous when she said 'but'
"-I think when you go to your father's house next week just be prepared that he probably won't accept you, because in college when we were freshly married and I was pregnant with you, he would beat up kids that were openly gay and call them slurs and say 'I would never want her to turn out that way' so I just want you to be prepared"
I sighed and she hugged me
"Thanks for the heads up"
I walked back upstairs to my room and texted Anna to tell her what happened
