The Shine Behind

Wondering, you were.
What was behind it? Something you've never seen before? Something dangerous? Void?

Carefully you came closer.
Putting my hair away, so you could see.
A bright turquoise shined your way.

For a moment, it was silent. You just looked at it, without saying a word.
I was not sure, what to say.

My heart was pounding in my chest, my curiosity grew.
All I could do was watch as you stared into my right eye.

Now you knew, that I was different. Now you knew, that I was a freak.

What were you thinking? What were you expecting? Will I ever know?

I was expecting you to laugh at me.
I was expecting you to hate on me.
For being a freak.

But all you did, was look.
Deep, into my soul.
Just as you, I looked back, deep into yours.
There was no hate. No disrespect.

And then I knew, you'd respect me. You would accept me the way I am.

It felt almost magical.

The moment felt like it could last forever.
I wish it could have lasted forever.

But of course, all good things come to an end.
