Sophia's P.O.V.

2018

The feeling of the wind ripping through my hair and the fresh smell of salt burns my nose as I await Lillian's arrival. I lean against the boardwalk railing, the sun shines brightly down upon me. I can't help but sigh from its warm comfort. It's been a few decades since I last felt the warm embrace of another. I long for the days when I had my family, and I wasn't so...alone.

"Sadness does not look good on you, Sophia."

I don't even bother to turn to see who the deep, yet soft feminine voice belongs to, as I already know.

"You're late, Lillian."

She mimics my position next to me, and I can't help but glance at her. She looks the same way she did nearly three centuries ago. I can't stop myself from rolling my eyes as I see her clothing choices. She wears long black jeans, a grey t-shirt, a black leather jacket, black-heeled boots, a purple crystal necklace, and a black-laced choker.

She looks like a typical goth to a human, but if another paranormal creature were to see her, it wouldn't take them long to figure out that she belongs to the night. And since there are fewer night creatures than day creatures, it also wouldn't take them long to figure out what she truly is.

She needs to blend in to survive. I learned that many years ago, and that is why I chose to wear light-blue jean shorts, a pink and blue tie-dye t-shirt, sunglasses, a pair of white converses, a light green sea turtle necklace hangs from my neck, and three little random bracelets wrap themselves around my left wrist. I honestly look like the modern girl who looks like she just walked out of a teen beach movie.

To say I can't wait to get back to my hotel room to change is an understatement...I’d much rather wear something along the lines of what Lillian is wearing, but since I have to blend in with the rest of society, I must dress not only according to this century, but also to this state. Los Angeles, California, currently a hot spot for tourists and inspiring actors/ actresses. But mostly, it's just another city that houses every sin imaginable.

"Mmm, funny, because honestly, you look like you just stepped out of the '80s."

I simply roll my eyes at her comment and get back to the sole reason I am even meeting up with her after more than three centuries.

"You bring it."

"Of course."

She takes out the small vial from her jacket pocket and holds it in her hands, only a few inches away from my arm. I stare intensely at the clear yet purple-tinted liquid and wonder if this truly will work.

With yet another sigh, I go to take it from her grasp, but faster than lightning, she jerks it away from me.

"What the h*ll is your problem!?"

I growl out as I look her dead in the eyes. My eyes start to turn black, and my gums start to scream in pain as I feel my fangs dislodge and take their rightful place.

Lillian simply gives me a concerned look. "You understand that once you drink this, you will forget everything and everyone you've over met and done. Even after this wears off in a few years, you will never be able to be the person you once were...you truly will be a new person."

A look of deep sadness flashes across her features before she quickly hides it with her typical frown, which is easily mistaken for a resting b***h face.
