My breaths were shallow and my ears were ringing.

"Hey! "

Did this really happen? Is Lisa really dead?

"Hey!"

My vision was blurry. I couldn't make anything out.

"HEY!"

Slap.

I felt a stinging sensation on my cheek. I put my hand up to my face as a swiveled my head to its original position staring at Lisa's body. But instead of her lifeless body, I make out the all too familiar face I see in the comic books all the time. Now in real life. Standing right in front of me.

"Hey! You need to get a hold of yourself and tell me what happened here."

All I could do was stand there staring at him, still wondering if this really was the reality that I was in right now. Suddenly I felt something wet and hot on my face.

"Oh Damian." I bent down and hugged him."She's gone! She's really gone!" I sat there like a kid, balling my eyes out. To be honest, I felt like a kid. In that moment I longed to be that little kid again where it was okay to cry in these situations, because it was normal. But expectations for kids my age are different. You have to act more grown up. Adult like. That means no crying. If that's really the case, I'd much rather stay a kid the rest of my life.

In the midst of our hug, I felt Damian hesitate whether to hug back, but then I felt a little pat on my back. Then he made me release him by putting his hands on my shoulders to face him.

"Listen, I need you to tell me who did this so I could go after them."

I don't really know to be honest. I've only known Lisa for a couple of weeks. I didn't even know who any of her friends were, let alone her enemies. But then I remembered something strange that happened earlier. While I was going to pick up Lisa's mail, I passed a couple of people. Most of them I recognized because they lived in the building. But, there was this one guy, the one I bumped into. The guy wearing a trench coat. I've never seen him before.

"Actually, I might have a lead for you. There was this guy I bumped into on the way down the hall to the lobby where I met you. He was wearing a black trench coat and he had a dirty face that looked out of place. Like he'd been punched a lot. He had a very agitated attitude and seemed to be in a hurry. He was speed walking and when he bumped into me, he seemed angrier than he should have been. Now, this is a stretch, but he could just be the guy who...who did this to Lisa."

"You're right, this is a stretch. But it's the best lead we've got. I saw a blood trail leading to the roof down the hall. I'll go follow it and you stay here."

"No- ah, don't leave me here by myself."

"Well, it seems my maturity age is older after all."

"It's not like that! I just-! I've never really been in this type of situation before and I'm scared." Besides the time when I got shot in a convenience store and died, but, we're not gonna talk about that."There! I admit it okay! I'm a coward! You happy?"

"Listen, I would let you come up here with me but, it's my job to protect the citizens of this revolting town and what if he has a gun? Besides, you'll, just be in my way."

"Whether it's the guy in the trench coat or not, it's most likely that he won't have a gun because he killed Lisa with a knife. Plus, you said yourself that I'm a pretty good fighter. So, can you please let me come with you? I don't want to stay with...her."

"Fine. But don't get in my way. He probably got away during your hissy fit."

Hey! How would you feel if you saw your best friend mangled and lying dead in a pool of blood huh?"

"For one thing, I've seen a lot of dead mangled bodies in my time as Robin and for another, you barley knew this women."

"So? It doesn't mean that it's any less sad. She was smiling just a few hours ago."

Noticing my solemn expression, Damian blurted out,"Anyways we'd better get going before it's too late. Come on."

As we rushed up the stairs, Damian said to me,"You have a very blood-curdling observant mind."

"What makes you say that?"

"Well, the fact you were able to pick up so many details about the assailant in a stressing situation for the first time. It was remarkably amazing."

Was he...complimenting me?

Sorry for the shorter chapter. Although you might not be able to tell. I don't know. I just thought that I needed to put something out and I've been slacking lately sooooo I got this! I hope it was enjoyable. Also, I know the story's moving kind of slow, but I honesty didn't know it was this bad until I started uploading it here. I'll try to remove some of the irrelevant mini plots and dialogue to get to the good stuff. I mean, let's be real, no one wants to sit there and read a chapter full of details about a house the whole time. Although if I do do that anyways I apologize in advance. If it seems boring,I put it there for a reason. See you next chapter;)

Peace
