12. A secret between us

After leaving the dining hall, I ran into Dick on the way to my room.

"Hey."

"Hey."

I didn't exactly know what to say.

"Let's just keep last night a secret for now. K?"

"Sure. But why?"

"Welllll.....Bruce talked to me about you. He said that Damian told him that you were suspicious. He said that he'd pretend to be nice to you so that he can get you to come with him. Then he gloated about how gulable you are. I told Bruce I'd keep an eye out, but that I don't think you're a threat."

"Why that little! All those nice things he said to me was all an act. I actually thought he was different from what the comics described and portrayed him to be. Or at the very least changed for some reason!"

"Yeah, I'm sorry about that. It took me a long time to build a relationship with him. And he still doesn't have one with Tim. You probably already know this, but, he actually prefers to listen to me more than Bruce. That's because at the beginning Bruce made him feel inferior and unwanted. He wasn't trying to, but, it was a lot to take in you know. Finding out you have a son from a one night stand. Now Damian feels compelled to prove to Bruce that he's just as good as the rest of us."

"Yeah. I'll try and give him the benefit of the doubt but, if he makes one more rude remark to me, I'll slug him!"

"I wouldn't expect any less," he said while laughing, "In fact, I encourage it."

"Then with your permission good sir, I shall slug him the next time I see him." I talked in a British accent and bowed at the end to make it seem more dramatic.

"All jokes aside, I would like to apologize again for Tim's rudeness. It's just. It's only been a couple months since Jason came back. Jason feels like he's been replaced and Tim feels like he's being replaced. I mean that's the whole reason I come back here from Bludhaven every week. Because Bruce asked for my help in finding Jason. So, try to give him the benefit of the doubt too. I know I'm asking a lot, but, please?"

"Alright. But only because it's you and because you're like my favorite character next to Damian."

"Wait. Really? Damian's your favorite character?"

"Don't get the wrong idea it's only because he reminds me of my little brother."

"Wow."

"What?"

"It's just, I've never heard you talk about your family before."

"Well this is only our third conversation."

"True. Anyways, I should get back. Kori'll be waiting for me."

"Yeah. Thanks for all the advice Dick. You're like the older brother I never had!" I gave him my best closed eyed smile. He was stunned for a few minutes, but quickly gained his composure.

"Anytime. Oh and by the way, try telling Damian that he reminds you of your little brother. I think it'll help."

"Really? What makes you think that?"

"Just a hunch!" He smiled, then turned to walk away.

I continued onto my room thinking about how I should deal with getting closer to the rest of the bat family. I feel like Dick trusts me a little bit since we've talked, and Bruce somewhat trusts me. But I need him to trust me more. Not to mention demon spawn and coffee psycho. Ugh. This is going to be harder than I expected. I guess I'll start with Damian first since Dick told me that advice about him reminding me of my brother. Alright, I'll go with that!

I finally made it to my room. I had asked Alfred for a journal and a pen. Once he gave it to me I went towards the desk in the corner of the room and started brainstorming ideas on how to go about this.

I finally filled up 3 pages with ideas and felt proud of myself. I closed the journal and looked over at the bedside clock. I read 12:43 a.m. Wow. I worked on this longer than I thought.

I decided it was finally time to go visit Damian.
