The Dark Rose

Ruby was depressed, she hadn't had any of her cookies for 3 days, and as the festival drew closer and closer ruby started relying more on the cookies to keep her happy, but every time she went to buy a box the entire shelf had been replaced with black roses. ruby was really starting to hate the colour black

On another note, Yang had become a lot more distant as of late, completely opposite to how she was a few days ago. Every time Yang saw Ruby she would whimper lightly before running away before ruby could follow her

Ruby had gone to practise her speed for the upcoming tournament due to happen in 3 days. She brought her scythe with her into the forest next to Beacon and started dashing around to find and kill any Grimm she could find

Suddenly the sky darkened as the world around her once again became a field of black roses. ruby was instantly on alert, her scythe at the ready as she hopped from spot to spot, never staying in one place for more than a second

"...You have improved," The voice said once again, no emotion behind it as it just stated the fact neither happy nor displeased by this development "But you are still not ready to fight against my pet, so I think I will challenge you today"

In front of Ruby the black roses melted and reformed into an upright mirror facing her, her image caught perfectly in the dark surface. Ruby stared at the reflection in confusion before jumping back in horror as a psychopathic grin split the reflection's face

"What? Surprised?" The reflection asked as its appearance started to warp, its skip paled drastically as its eyes changes from white and silver to black and red, the clothes it wore turned red like blood and changed into a black and red dress, white horns broke from the skin on her temple, and finally her scythe turned black and shifted into a weapon of nightmares as the arm holding it disintegrated into black bones

The reflection did a twirl "What do you think?" it asked with a giggle even as its eyes promised death, slowly, and painfully. "W-Who are you" ruby stuttered out, raising her scythe to defend herself

The reflection pouted before bursting into maniacal laughter "I'm you of course! Just far, far better! Hehehehehe", Ruby recoiled at the demented laughter coming from her evil clone. The reflection gave Ruby a devious smirk

"My name is Rose Grimm, and I am your future!" Rose lifted her scythe and pointed it at Ruby, "W-wait, y-you can't harm me, you're just a strange reflection!" Rubys confidence grew as she realised this, she just had to be sure not to do any incantations and the monster would be stuck in the mirror till long after she was gone

Rose just shook her head as she walked forward, the mirror stretching as the scythe came further and further past the mirror frame till with a sudden snap the mirror shattered, leaving the path of the monster to Ruby obstacle-free, the sound of light footsteps crunched against the roses on the floor

"Your confidence is ill-founded... damn it, Snow is rubbing off on me" Ruby didn't understand what Rose meant by Snow, but she was far too scared to notice how that may have been important

Rubys knees started clicking together repeatedly at super-speed her hands shaking in fear as the monster refocused its eyes on her "But it doesn't matter, it makes me sound more intimidating, wouldn't you agree?"

Rose disappeared before repeating in front of Ruby, her red eyes staring through Rubys silver ones and into her soul. The 2 of them just stood in silance, one too afraid to move, the other examining her opponents' soul, literally

"You are surprisingly pure" Rose stated as she examined Rubys soul "I wonder how long it would take to break?" Rose licked her lips at the thought, her sadistic mind having a field day as she saw the innocent Ruby shake in her boots

"*Sigh* But then again, Mother Lux might want you to serve her as well" Rose slowly pulled away from Ruby contemplating what she should do next

"Tell you what, survive against me for 5 seconds and I'll give you to Mother Lux" Rose got into a ready position her scythe stuck out behind her so as to she swang at a moments notice

Rose launched forward using 20% of her full speed leaving a trail of black fire behind her as the roses on the ground burning. Ruby went full speed and started defending herself against the never-ending attacks

Left, right, duck, jump, failed attack due to reflection, jump, right, left, duck, Ruby constantly move to avoid being cut in half, seeing no hole in Roses attacks to slip through. All this happened in half a second, sparks flew as the 2 were invisible to the naked eye

But it all ended when Rose hit Ruby in the face with the blunt part of her scythe, knocking Ruby off her feet and crashing into the ground. "3 Seconds, I'm moderately impressed, but you know the rules, and so do I"

Rose slowly closed in on Ruby before being stopped as a metallic hand grabbed the back of her clothes "No, no Rose. you know your orders as well as I know mine, she is meant to live" A voice that Ruby defiantly knew but couldn't place said

"Aww, did you have to stop my fun? We could have just said she died from shock!" Rose said with an angry pout before turning back to face ruby with her smirk back in place, "And do you think father would believe that?" the voice asked in return

Rose froze before an angry grimace formed on her face "No, he wouldn't *Sigh* seems you get to live red" Rose let go of Ruby and let her hit the ground "Enjoy your life while you may"

Rose and the unknown women started to walk off, turning into red particles as they left Ruby lying on the wet forest floor surrounded by black roses
