"We just have to run some lab results before we discharge you just to be sure" Doc Jennie said to the patient while checking her charts
"Thanks doc" the patient said
"That's all, we'll get going now. Let's go Nurse Lisa" Doc Jennie I then walked out of the room "Who's the next patient?" she asked
"It's Miss Bae" I answered calmly but in my mind I want to scream, how can I face her? I just took off and not even look back
"Oh okay lemme see her charts" I handed her the charts and she sighed deeply "Coronary heart disease doesn't have a cure only treatments. How is she lately?"
"She's doing good lately, she's been stable and she's taking her meds"
"Treatments can only manage the symptoms and reduce the chances of problems like heart attacks" she exhaled sharply and run her fingers through her hair "Let's go talk to her"
We walked inside her room and I find her staring at me.
"Good morning Miss Bae, this is Doc Jennie and I'll be the attending for now since Doc Wendy isn't available" she broke her eye contact and stared at the woman beside me
"Okay" she replied
"I know it's written in your charts but just let me ask a question, you know for standard procedure" Doc Jennie took her ballpen and notepad
"Okay, any symptoms you've been feeling lately?"
"None, I've been actually good"
"No fatigue or weakness?"
"None"
"How about irregular heartbeat?"
"None"
"Swelling in your legs, ankles, or feet?
"None"
"So how's you heart?"
"inlove" she murmured but I heard it clearly
"Sorry, didn't catch it. What was that?" Doc Jennie asked
"I said.... it's fab.... Fabulous"
"Good, but we still have to do Echo (Echocardiogram) to monitor your heart's condition. That's all Miss Bae" Doc Jennie the turned to me "Schedule for an Echo"
"Noted Doc" I replied
"You can take a rest now Miss Bae and notify us if you need something. Let's go Nurse Lisa" We were about to go out when she spoke
"Actually I need something" Joo-hyun said
"What is it Miss Bae?" Doc Jennie asked
"I need to talk to Nurse Lisa"
Doc Jennie eyed me then Joo-hyun "Okayyyyy, I can handle the last patient Nurse Lisa, you can take care of Miss Bae here and go back to the station once you're done. I'll go now" Doc Jennie then walked outside the room
I was just on my usual spot standing in front of her bed not making an eye contact. We're both silent gathering our thoughts and waiting for the other one to break the silence. I inhaled deeply trying to collect my courage and prepare myself on what scenarios may fall.
"I'm sorry for leaving" I started "I don't know what got into me, I was surprised, I don't know how to react" my hands fidget while speaking "I'm sorry"
"I should be the one apologizing, I initiated the kiss. I'm sorry for surprising you but I'm not sorry for kissing you and I mean it"
I looked at her in the eyes trying to read what's in her mind. She tapped the space beside her bed indicating that I should sit there, I obliged and sat next to her.
"Do you really mean it?" I asked
"Why would I lie?" she then put her hand on my cheeck "I love you"
"And I love you too"
"but I don't want to hurt you"
"You'll never hurt me"
"You don't know that. You know I'm sick and I don't want you to suffer"
"I chose to love you so I should be responsible for all the consequences" I held her hand that's on my cheek "I'll be your strength and we'll get through this" I hugged her tight and caressed her back
"Thank you" she said
"You don't have to thank me, but you can do something else tho"
"What is it?"
I grinned and gave her my mischievous smirk. She looked at me weirdly "Spill it Manobal"
"You know what I want Miss Bae" I pouted my lips asking for a kiss
"No" she crossed her arms and looked away
"Why?"
"Because of that cat eyed Doctor you were with"
"What about Doc Jennie?"
"I heard that you had a coffee date with her?"
"Uhm...... where did you hear that?"
"Answer the damn question Manobal"
"Yes and no" I shrieked. I coughed and compose myself "Yes and no"
"What's that supposed to mean" she looked at me sternly and I swear I can see smoke coming out of her nose
"Yes I had a coffee with her and no it's not a date"
"You sure? That's not what I heard" she said and her arms still crossed
"You believe in gossips?"
"Except from fever and disease the other thing that spreads fast here is gossips"
"Are you jealous" I asked while wiggling my eyebrow
"No, I'm not. Bye" she then pulled her blanket, covered herself and lied on her bed
"Whatever you say Miss Bae, I need to go now Doc Jennie needs me" I teased and stood up from her bed. She immediately removed the blanket on her body and sat up straight
"Actually..... I'm not feeling well, I still need you to accompany me" she said slightly holding the side of her head like it hurts or something
"Absolutely Miss Bae, now tell me where it hurts" I said while surpressing my laughter
"No it's okay, I just need you to stay for a while" she said not making an eye contact
"Of course, I'll be here" I will always be
