"I-I'm alright, kitten."
Diego whispered to me as I quickly examined his face. The mask heated up and slightly malfunctioned, although nothing's changed.

Phoenix was still standing in front of us, confident. Just like HER...

"Just now... I saw her spirit in you."
Godot told to Phoenix after taking a sip of his coffee.
Phoenix was confused.

"...
I never liked you.
Six years ago, you helped the woman who put me to sleep escape by hiding her bottle.
While I was sleeping... you let Mia die.
But you didn't care.
You just kept on living your pathetic, happy-go-lucky life.
You even had the nerves to follow in her footsteps as a lawyer.
I could never forgive you.
Or at least... this is what I thought."
Diego sighed.

"Mr. Godot..."
Maya had no words.

"But... I was wrong about you.
Y/N put it in my head from the very beginning.
The truth is...
The only person I could never find it in my heart to forgive...
Was me."

"Diego..."
I said quietly.

"I was the one who failed to protect Mia... me and no one else.
I tried to avert my eyes from the truth... to escape from the harshness of reality...
I just couldn't face Mia's death.
So I ran.
I hid behind a mask.
I threw away my name, my identity.
I couldn't even deal with being a defence attorney anymore."
Godot confessed.

"B-But you saved Maya!"
Phoenix tried to change his perspective.

"That was the plan... but it didn't happen."

"H-Huh...? What do you mean?"
Maya didn't understand.

"Maya, if I had really wanted to save you... then there was only one person I should've talked to right away."

"You mean... Phoenix..."
I mumbled.
Diego nodded.

"I risked Iris and your mother, and got them in trouble, into this mess. Ignoring the most important person involved.
Do you know why? The true reason?"

W-What is he getting at...?

"I suppose... I wasn't interested in saving you at all.
Perhaps... I was just trying to salvage what's left from my own broken soul...

...I was trying to make up for the fact I couldn't save Mia. Nothing more."
Godot said coldly.

"That's why I let you walk into a situation that I knew was dangerous, and hurting everyone involved.
...forgive me..."
Diego's voice broke.

"Y-You are wrong! You put your life on the line to save Maya!"
Phoenix argued.

"Was it really for Maya's sake...?"

"What do you mean?"

"That night... a part of me knew it wasn't really Daliah Hawthorn there, in front of me.
It could've been your mother... or even your little cousin...
But I still blindly picked up the blade.
I'm not sure what went through my mind.
Was is the desire to protect Maya Fey?
Or was it something else...?
Maybe... the desire for revenge...?
And now... I don't think I know anything anymore!"
His voice broke again, pure sadness and guilt slipping into his voice.
