Perfect Imperfections 28

Twenty-four hours have passed and there is no sign that Jennie will wake up any time. Jisoo's heart was filled with worries and fear. What if her wife doesn't wake up?
 
"Doctor, it's been 24 hours now and yet my wife is still unconscious."
 
"The test that we took from her says that the patient and the baby's health are both stable now. There is no more sign of possible miscarriage." The doctor explained.
 
"Then why my wife won't wake up?"
 
"It is possible that your wife's subconscious doesn't want to wake up yet. Maybe for her, sleeping is the safest place for her and the child."
 
"What do you mean?" Jisoo looks at the doctor.
 
"Your wife is in a coma."
 
"C...co...coma?" Jisoo's voice cracked. She can't accept it. Her brain can't accept what the doctor says. It is impossible. 
 
"Yes." The doctor put his hand in his pocket. "You see, Mr. Kim sometimes people who suffered from a terrible accident, torture or anything that is too painful for them, they choose not to wake up to feel safe. Like your wife, maybe her subconscious  knew that if she stays unconscious she and her child will be safe to whoever wants to hurt her."
 
"But for how long?"
 
"Sometimes it took weeks, months." The doctor then smiles weakly. "Or years. Sometimes they don't wake up at all."
 
Jisoo grabbed the edge of the bed for support as she feels weak in her knees. 
 
"H...How a...a..bout my c..child?"
 
"As of now the mother and the child are stable. If it continues and they bought are healthy it is not impossible for Mrs. Kim to give birth thru C- Section. Sometimes comatose victims came out from coma after giving birth. Don't lose hope, Mr. Kim." The doctor pats Jisoo's shoulder before he left.
 
Jisoo sits on Jennie's bed, her tears fell as a stinging pain in her heart got worst. 
 
"Wife, I know you feel safer when you sleep but can you wake up? Don't sleep too much baby, give me a chance to protect you and our child."
 
Seeing her wife sleeping peacefully. She caressed her cheeks. She feels her wife's bruises in her cheeks, forehead and her arms. 
 
"This is not supposed to happen to you if only I didn't let you cross the road alone. If only I  didn't stop walking. This is my fault baby."
 
Jisoo wipes her tears and stands up when she heard the door opening.
 
It was her in-laws.
 
"Mom, Dad." Jisoo hugs her in-laws.
 
"How is she? Did the doctor already checked her?"
 
"Yes, Dad, "
 
Jennie's Mother went to her sleeping daughter. "What did the doctor's say? Why she didn't wake up yet? 
 
"T...the doctor s..says" Jisoo's voice cracked once again. "Jennie is in a coma."
 
"C...coma?" Jennie's Mother almost fell if her husband was not quick enough to catch her.
 
"What do you mean by coma, Jisoo?" Jennie's Father is holding her wife.
 
"According to the doctors, Jennie may think that sleeping is safer for her and the child."
 
"H...how about the child?"
 
"Jennie will go on C- Section if it's her due date."
 
"H..how long she will stay like that?" Jennie's Mother hugged her husband tight while waiting for Jisoo's answer.
 
"The doctors and staff here can't give an exact time when Jennie will wake up. It may take weeks, months, years" Jisoo's tears began to fall again. "Or never."
 
"H..honey.." Jennie's Mother cried with Jisoo's words.
 
"Is there any chance that she may wake up?" Jennie's Father tried his best to be calm. Knowing that the child she carried for nine months in her stomach might die because of someone's wrong deed kills her inside.
 
"They told me that sometimes a comatose pregnant wakes up after giving birth. But not all."
 
"What did my Jennie do to deserve this?" Jennie's Mother tears never stop from falling. "My Jennie, she never hurt anyone. But why would someone hurt her?"
 
Jennie's Mother is right, Jennie never hurt anyone, and if she did it was not on purpose. Jisoo knows her wife. She is caring, loving a very honest and kind person.
 
Who would have a motive to hurt her wife? 
 
"D...dad!" It finally hits her. 
 
Jennie's Father looks at her daughter in law. 
 
"What is it?" 
 
"I...i might have an idea who did this to my wife."
 
Jennie's Father's face turns dark. "Who is it? Who dare hurt my daughter?"
 
"Jennie always talks about this co-worker of hers. She told me that this guy has been courting her for two years, but Jennie never gave him a chance aside of that one time she invites her for dinner, to thank him." Jisoo stops for a second. "There is this one time, just a few days ago, this person invites Jennie to have dinner at his place cause he wants to introduce Jennie as his girlfriend to his parents. But Jennie declined and made it clear to him that she is married and will have a child." Jisoo looks at her father in law. "Will it be enough to charge him as the prime suspect, Dad?"
 
"It could be, Who is this person?"
 
"Atty. Kim Jongin or Kai."
