"I mean, it's obvious, right? A family heirloom. I mean, what better place to hide a message? He had to know it was gonna get back to me, right?" John B asks us as we all ride in the van, Kie sitting next to him up front while JJ, Pope, and I sit in the back.

"Yeah. It's possible." Kie responds, trying to remain hopeful.

"It could also be possible that you're concocting wild theories to help, you know...

"Pope."

"...Deal with your sad feels." Pope suggests.

"Bro, you know how I process my sad feels. Dank nugs and the stickiest of ickies, that's how I do it." JJ speaks from in front of me.

"I'm not concocting, okay? My dad's trying to give me a message." John B gets aggravated.

"If it helps you believe, John B." I say, feeling bad for my friend. At least I know for sure my mom is dead and dad isn't coming back.

"Look, I-I don't need a therapy session, okay?" John B looks back at me. "Look, I'm not trippin' out."

"It's okay to trip, bro, but-" JJ tries to help.

"Look, my... my dad is missing, okay?" John B interrupts him. "Missing."

"You don't know what it's like to have the person closest to you vanish and then have no idea what happened. Just wake up every morning wondering." John B continues with a shaky voice.

"It's been almost a year." Kie softly tells him.

"Hey, he could have been kidnapped. That's definitely a possibility." I throw out a suggestion.

"Yeah, could be in a Soviet sub getting interrogated by the KGB somewhere." Pope adds.

"Absolutely. Uh... or Atlantis." JJ joins in.

"JJ." Kie interrupts. "Look, what do you think the message is?" She asks John B.

"Redfield. Redfield Lighthouse. That's my dad's favorite place." He explains as we pull up to a giant lighthouse. He stops the van and we all go to exit. I climb out, taking a couple steps to look at the lighthouse as I raise my hand to block the sun from my eyes.

"Yeah, I'm definitely not going up there." I say, looking up at the the tall, run down building.

"Alright. Here's what's gonna happen, you're gonna post up and look out for bogeys, okay?" John B turns towards JJ.

"Wait... Why me?" He asks.

"Because you're not coming." Pope tells him.

"Why?" JJ asks again.

"Look JJ, there are independent and dependent variables. You're a independent variable." Pope explains.

"Shut up." JJ interrupts.
