Enoch's POV

Her voice was strained. She sounded broken, unlike the emotionless voice I had heard before. I may not have known her for long, but her voice is something I'll never forget. So hearing her like this was different and would not leave my mind as she walked out of the bathroom.

Her face was pale, her freckles more prominate than ever. Her eyelashes stuck together as if wet, and tear streaks ran down her flushed cheeks. Her hazel eyes were glossy and glistening in the dim light of the bathroom.

She wiped her face, breaking me out of my trance. Only then did I notice I was staring so I looked down at our feet. Her feet were quite small compared to mine. Her shoes were a lot more modern than mine, which made sense.

"Ready for supper?" I ended up saying, embarrassed at how stupid I sounded. I brought my eyes up to meet hers as she softly smiled.

"As ready as I'll ever be," she spoke quietly in her American accent.

"Good follow me," I said poker faced, as I turned around and walked down the cool hallway. I shortly heard her light footsteps behind me. When I reached the stairs I grasped the rail and continued on to the dinning room, the girl close behind me.

As we walked in, all eyes landed on us, Emma glaring at me to be nice. I just scoffed and rolled my eyes, moving to where I normally sat.

"Okay everyone, I know most of you have met our newest peculiar, but for those of you who haven't, this is Miss Sawyer Bailey. She will be living with us from now on," The Bird spoke, as some of the little kids squealed in excitement. I rolled my eyes as a response.

"Now Sawyer, you can choose where you sit," She smiled at the young girl next to her. Sawyer's options were limited, either next to The Bird or on my left.

Her eyes looked between my left and Miss Peregrine's, face focused on her thoughts. What I would do to know what she was thinking. Probably that we're a bunch of freaks and that she wants nothing to do with us.

We all watched as she walked around the table and sat to my left. She softly smiled at me and Emma who sat on her other side. As always Emma smiled back, while I just kept my face straight.

"Now children, why don't we introduce our peculiarities to Sawyer," The bird spoke sitting down at the opposite end of the table.

"I have backmouth," Claire said first, as she grabbed her meat to demonstrated what a backmouth is. Sawyer looked a bit horrified at first, but quickly complemented the little girl, making them both smile.

Everyone else went on to explain their peculiarities as I zoned off.

"Enoch, what's your peculiarity?" The Bird snapped me out of my thoughts. My face flushed in embarrassment, but I tried keeping my cool.

"Oh, um- I'm a dead riser, I make things come alive" I explained out loud looking at my plate, not wanting to see her reaction. Most people actually think my peculiarity is quite strange and get freaked out.

"A dead riser? That actually sounds pretty freakin' awesome," the new girl said. I lifted my gaze to match with hers, and she had a slight smile on her face. She actually thinks its cool? Most people freak.

"Really?" I raise an eyebrown in suspicion.

"Yeah I mean rising things from the dead sounds really interesting," she replied, her face not giving away any sign that she was lying.
