Sawyer's POV

The day seemed to drag on.

I was currently outside playing with Claire and Olive when I saw a group of peculiars leave the house. Curious as to what they were up to, and quite frankly looking for an excuse to leave, I intercepted them on their walk.

“Where are you guys going?” I ask innocently to the small group of older peculiars. Emma was the first to speak.

“We are going to get Jacob,” She spoke with a calm but disinterested voice.

“Oh okay, can I tag along?” I ask, my eyes wandering over the new faces.

“Miss Peregrine said only us. It’s not quite safe outside the loop,” Emma spoke again, placing her hand on top of Bronwyn’s shoulder.

“Oh, well then, I guess I’ll see you when you guys get back then,” I tried to hide the disappointment in my tone as they walked away. Both the little ones ran up to me, asking to play again.

“I would, but I have a bit of peculiar homework to do,” I said, winking at them. It’s not that I don’t like them, it’s just I’m not used to kids. They had a child-like wonder in their eyes as to what kind of peculiar homework I would be doing.

When they let me go I walked back towards the large house.

Stepping inside the old house, I wandered the halls not quite wanting to head to the library yet. I ran my fingers along the patterned wallpaper that adorned the walls. I took in the stale smell of the old house, but somehow it still had a new house smell.

When I came to the stairs I noticed a tall figure descending them.

“Oh, hey Enoch,” I spoke with a small smile on my face. I figured this morning went well and that he hated me less, but apparently not. He walked straight past me with a blank look on his face. Not a single sound was made as I stood in the hallway confused as to why he iced me out. Did I say something wrong this morning? I thought we bonded a bit?

I decided to head up to my room and read one of the books I had.

The rest of the day was spent in my window seat reading The Fault In Our Stars, one of my favorites.

When it was time for dinner I walked down the stairs and into the dining room, taking my place next to Enoch. He rolled his eyes once he realized I sat down. What was his problem?

Dinner had a strange tension to it. Across the table sat the same pale boy with dark hair and blue eyes that I met on my way here. Jacob, I believe his name was.

We looked at each other simultaneously, both with confused looks on our faces.

“S-sawyer, I didn’t know you were peculiar?” He stuttered over his words, an accusing finger pointed towards me.

“Well, you told me you were either,” I responded with my brows beginning to furrow.

“I-I’m not, I just, I came to see her,” he pointed at Miss Peregrine, panic spreading across his pale face. He seemed to be just as shocked by this world as I was.

“Jacob, would you please sit, dinner is starting,” Miss Peregrine decided to interrupt the conversation once again, sending the room into uncomfortable silence.

The silence was broken when Jake went to sit down in the seemingly empty seat that was directly next to him when a naked and fully invisible Millard spoke up.

“Millard go put some clothes on, polite persons do not eat their supper in the nude,” Miss Peregrine dismissed the boy. Jacob took his place which was next to Emma and we all served ourselves.
