"Hinata? Hinata? It's me, Kageyama, open the door!"

He knocked on the door lightly as he said this and turned back around to the rest of the team and Eryk. The look on all of their faces was that of utter confusion and apprehension.

Kageyama knocked on the door again, repeating what he had previously said desperately. Inside, his heart was beating so fast he thought it might burst, and his hands were starting to shake. What had the doctor been in there for? Had the results come back already? Surely if they came back that fast that's a good sign, right? Or did that mean it's something really bad?

"Are the rest of the team with you?" They all heard through the door. It was muffled, but they could all tell from the slight crack in his voice when he said 'rest' that Hinata was on the verge of tears.

"Y-yes..."

"Tell them to go away."
Yachi let out an audible gasp and Daichi gritted his teeth with anxiety. Kageyama didn't know what to say.

"Uh...i-if they go, will you open the door?"

"Yes. I only want Kageyama and Ukai. He should know too." Ukai's eyes widened at this, but he was ready to receive whatever news was waiting for him, and felt a sense of pride that Hinata trusted him that much.

The rest of the team scuttled off back to the waiting room, leaving Kageyama and Ukai standing awkwardly outside the hospital room.

Click. They heard the door unlock and instantly went in.

They were met with an unsteady Hinata, who was making his way to an armchair situated in the corner of the room. As he sat down, he put his hands to his face and rubbed it a little, leaning back on the chair and outstretching his legs.

Ukai broke the silence by shutting the door, and asking how Hinata was feeling. He knew this was a stupid remark, but he honestly didn't know what else to say. He hadn't been prepared for Hinata to trust him like this.

Hinata looked up at the two of them. His face was contorted into an unreadable position. He took a deep breath in and with tears slightly welling in his eyes, he uttered five words. These five words would change Hinata's life forever, and would destroy Kageyama's.

"I have a brain tumour."

Kageyama stopped breathing for a second, and raised a hand to his forehead in shock. He felt his legs start to shake underneath him and gripped Ukai's arm to try and maintain his balance.

"I see. But it's treatable right? Most of them are!" Ukai said, his voice filled with hope.

Hinata sat there completely numb. Any emotion that he was showing on his face before had disappeared and was instead replaced with a blank expression which made them both more scared than if he would've been sobbing, screaming, cursing the world around him.

"They think I have a PNET tumour. It's really rare apparently, only something like 1000 people have it across the globe. Guess I'm that special huh?" He chuckled slightly as he said that last sentence, causing Kageyama to furrow his brow in shock that he was laughing over this.

"Right...so, it's treatable?" Ukai repeated, the hope in his voice slowly fading away as the conversation continued.

"Th-they said that surgery was an option but I'd only have a small chance of it actually working."

"That's great!" Kageyama exclaimed excitedly, "Oh thank god! So do they know when they're going to do it then?"

"I'm not having the surgery, Kageyama."

Ukai opened his mouth slightly and ran a hand through his hair. He couldn't believe this was happening.

"What?!" Kageyama lurched forward and grabbed Hinata by the collar.

"Kageyama stop!"

"What do you mean you're not having the surgery?! If it's your only option you have to do it! Stop being selfish, you asshole! You need to have it! P-please..." His voice trailed off and his grip slowly got looser as eyes filled with tears once again.

Hinata grabbed the hand that was holding his collar and stroked it gently with his thumb. Kageyama bent his head towards the floor and sobbed quietly, his mind racing with thousands of thoughts all at once. Hinata placed a hand under his chin and lifted his head back up. Locking eyes with eachother, Kageyama was embarrassed that he was the one crying over this, that Hinata was the one comforting him when it should've been the other way around.

"It'll be okay."
