Warnings: angst

~~~
To forget is to erase happenings of the past, erase vital things of your being, erase people, places, and things from your mind. To forget is to release your inner being, let it freely wander wherever it may go, let it be free from you, the effective erasure of you. You are made from memories, multiple linear happenings all adding up to the person you are today, adding up to the wisdom, strength, and psychological control you possess today. To forget is to erase yourself, start a new, reset.
Dear Sam,
I have fully given up my love for you, you have wronged me years ago and I finally learned to let it go. I have chosen to travel a new path, away from you, away from the lands I once called home. In order to completely eliminate any chances of me running back to you and my past, I must learn to forget. I already 'forgave', so I must now forget. To forget is to lose a part of yourself, you know? I must give up a part of myself to be free from you, to be free from our past, to be free from the emotional and mental pain you caused me. This may very well be the last letter you receive from me, let it not be in heartbreak or anger that we part, but in knowing that we cannot associate with one another, we must go our own ways and do our own things.
Sincerely,
One who must forget
The harsh wind blew savagely across the arctic tundra like a herd of buffalo, charging across the valleys, slopes, and plains, and whipping the hood off of Ponk's head. The masked individual's boots crunched through the snow as he trudged along, making his way across the tundra and to the spruce and birch forests that lay beyond. The slightly warmer weather welcomed him there, encasing him in a thin layer of reassurance and safety, letting him know he's on his way. Ponk journeyed across many different biomes, seeing many new things and mentally greeting old ones with a nonexistent smile on his face. The mentality he carried wasn't necessarily the best, but he carried it anyways, using his shoulders in a metaphorical way to carry the burden. As the platinum blonde slipped his way through the vines and brush of a jungle, he spotted a humungous, reddish colored, tree that stood out from the rest. Ponk made his way over to it and grabbed onto a branch, testing how much weight it could hold, when it held, he decided to haul himself up into the tree. When he reached what he felt an uncomfortable height, he stuck his head out from the leaves and surveyed the land around him. The wind whipped by, kissing his face with a gentle cold that felt welcoming, everything about this area felt welcoming, almost homely. Ponk twisted around to examine the tree more, discovering a... lemon? This couldn't be a lemon tree, could it? No. Ponk cut off a small branch and looked at it, revealing it to be a jungle and lemon tree hybrid. He smiled, taking a lemon in his hands and slicing it in half with a pocket knife before squeezing it into his mouth. This lemon tasted like no other, exquisitely sour with the smallest hint of zest to make it just right. Ponk then decided to make this tree his home.
A few months later, Ponk sat atop his house, taking in the gorgeous view and sighing softly as the wind caressed his face. The young man held his mask in one hand as he closed his eyes a relished in the sunlight and soft breeze, it felt so nice to be free. Free from the burden of living in a broken home.
