Fire and water
I want to remember
the way your voice cracked
the first time you uttered
the infamous three words,
the way your face radiated sunshine
when i said, "I love you too."
The way your eyes droop
with lost hours of sleep
when you are distressed
by the three exams you have next week.
How your arms feel heavy
around my body but
safer than the dense walled confine
I lived in as a child.
How your chest pulsates under me
when we are stripped to our bare bones,
skin on skin, you are water drowning
my fire, evaporating agony.
I want to remember how it feels
to hold you to your core
when you hold me to mine.
The way I ache and long
to hold your face against my palms.
To wipe the stained tire
from under your eyes.
To caress your head and body,
hold you gently, in unbreakable euphoria.
To hold on despite the miles
between us; there is gravity,
smoke caught ablaze, we are
a match made to burn.
Water runs in fluid serenity, you
keep me under, extinguished flare.
