Old Fancy, New Money
meringue sits on the table
glazed maple wood
faint yellow flicker
the refrigerator light illuminates
in static beige technicolor
the tv buzzes in anticipation
across an arboreous corridor
walls wrapped in opulent carnations
coral, carmine, cardinal, rouge
there's an odd ascetic air
about the new money aftertaste
of plush milky cream dollops
atop cocoa bakery biscuits
nostalgia lures in the whimsy
of penurious scented wax
burning into twirling spirals
of clean linen smoke
the appeal of fancy gleams
at the expense of merited wealth
and nocturnal haze curtains
plastic plates for polished porcelain
the midnight moon murmurs
through silver lined clouds
cherry kisses meet
in serene repetition
under cashmere covers
bought for a song
for old habits die hard
when humility yields
in a benevolent crescendo
