Apologies Are All I Have

In shame, cries quaking soul of mine

In shame, cries quaking soul of mine.
Guilt suffocates my pounding heart full of desire.
To want you, to want a home,
how is this too much to ask for?
To want you, to want happiness,
how is it that I keep falling short of peace?

Underserving of your love, I-
I want your love; in shame
my eyes burn from your tender gaze.
Undeserving of your time, I-
I take your soft affection, often granted.

The sun in the trees, mellow golden warmth,
glimmer of colour in rain;
Your light touch against my petal-thin skin,
like a pat on the head of a distressed child, I-
I am not who you need.

You need one who pours radiance into you
as you breathe it into me.
A thousand sunflowers would turn to worship you,
yet, you stop at the corner of a dead-end street,
purple hyacinth on asphalt.
