Ryan was 16 and Chad was 17 when the tension between them finally snapped in a baseball game that felt combative and lyrical and everyone around them knew all the right steps along with them.
Ryan was 17 and Chad was 18 when either of them admitted that is what had happened that day and shared the dancefloor at their senior prom. Transporting them back to summer and the dance lessons that were just a ploy for Chad to spend time alone with Ryan.
Ryan was still 17 and Chad was still 18 when they decided Albuquerque to New York City was just too far for a brand new relationship to handle, that they both deserved the option to be themselves and open to options in college.
Ryan was 18 and Chad was 19 when skyping each other nearly daily was the only way either one made it through their new normals. Ryan told himself this was some weakness forcing a connection to home the he was desperate to sever, but he knew that wasn't really true.
Ryan is 20 and Chad is 21 as they stand there seeing each other in person for the first time in three years and though he is avoiding saying it, somewhere Ryan feels some of his cracks start to get better.
