Chapter Twenty-Two - Lying

But I'm lying when I talk to you,

Cause you're lying under someone new,

And I'm dying, wanna tell the truth,

I'm not over you,

-PRETTYMUCH, "Lying,"

Veronica let out a quiet groan as she repeatedly banged her head against her locker door, images of last night played in her head that along with the aching pain in between her legs served as a constant reminder of what she'd done, she'd cheated on her boyfriend with the guy she claimed to despise, the worst part, she didn't necessarily feel bad which made her feel guiltier than she already was, Mike was trying to make a good impression on her family, he'd speak non stop of a distant future where they were married and had a family of their own and he'd unknowingly been the only person who'd pulled her from that depressed slump her fight with Archie had put her in, she ought to at least regret it, no? After having been unfaithful to someone so kind and loyal she ought to feel as if she's the scum of the earth, yet she didn't if anything she wanted the ordeal to repeat itself, though with the previous night's events came a few painful discoveries,

The first of which was obvious, she missed Archie,

That was to be expected, after spending six long years being practically attached to someone's hip suddenly losing that connection is difficult, she'd felt lonely, lonelier than usual despite having a great support system, the next discovery well that was more painful than the last, though again it was to be expected, she still wanted him, and she'd ignore those thoughts if it weren't for the simple fact that she realized the mere thought of the redhead sent her into a heated frenzy, yet the mere thought of her boyfriend couldn't, she hated admitting that to herself the fact that someone so arrogant and self-centered could make her feel things her sweet caring boyfriend couldn't, it made her angry really that she'd played into it so easily that she'd jumped at the chance to climb into bed with him again without a second thought, yet now that she'd had the chance to give it a second thought, she knew she'd do the same and something about that made her stomach churn with disgust, disgust for herself,

"So how was last night?" chirped a high pitched voice in her ear, as a pair of arms snaked around her waist,

"It was alright," she shrugged,

"Oh no, what happened," Tabitha sighed from behind her,

"Nothing, Mary loved Mike, and apparently so does my mom now," Veronica answered remembering the flood of text that'd woken her up a few hours prior,

"Ok, so what's wrong then? Shouldn't you be backflipping in excitement?" Katy teased, making her raven-haired friend roll her eyes,

"He brought her," she said, a sentence so vague, yet both of her friends instantly knew who she was talking about, and it made both their bodies heat up in anger, though one was more subtle about it than the other was,

"Where is he? He's getting a vasectomy for breakfast," Katy seethed, Veronica couldn't help but let out a small giggle at the reference her friend had thrown out so casually, she just shook her head though, she couldn't exactly tell them the real reason, she found she couldn't tell many people the real reasons for anything anymore,
