January was ending, so the winter was calmer.

"Take care, Sabito."

He read the last of Giyuu's letter before a knock on his door was heard. His head turned to the side where Makomo had started to open the door.

A sight of a girl with the demon slayer uniform, her skirt had now been changed with a hakama while she still used that flower haori of hers. A precious gift just like the one he had of his father.

"Are you ready to go now?" Sabito nodded, looking at the letter before putting it back in a box. He grabbed the sword next to him and wrapped it around his belt.

As he stepped out of the room, a small giggle came across his ear.

"What?" He turned to look at her with a raised eyebrow. Her hand suddenly took him by surprise as it kept rubbing the peach locks with care.

"You and Iguro better come back safe soon."

_______

"Iguro move!"

Those were the last words he could recall before he was completely knocked down by.. something coming out of nowhere.

What happened?

Oh, right... They were both in the final selection, he remembers a woman of white hair holding a paper lantern, telling everyone to survive for seven days.

Then... Sabito was so strong he had managed to kill almost every single demon apart from the ones he and a few other students killed before, he had already cleaned the whole place, 80% of all the kills would have definitely been his, while that small 20 was shared between Iguro and two small girls that where more focused on caring for the injured students than anything else.

The older was the same age as them, she had longer hair and two butterfly pins on each side, carrying a pink sword while the shorter, more younger girl, was three years younger, and even if she didn't have any strength to decapitate demons, she will certainly be of a great help with scavenging for wild edibles, cooking, and general medical care overall.

They seemed fine, they were safe, Sabito was hellishly strong, Kanae and Shinobu had amazing survival skills, Obanai was great at spotting demon trails that had been left behind.

Even in the middle of the day they could find the hideouts and kill them without any problems.

"A calm before the storm."

Obanai suddenly remembered those words that Giyuu had uttered. Since there weren't a lot of times they met, he would remember what Giyuu had told them those days. When those words came out of her lips, they were supposedly for no one, and now, they were coming back fresh as if they had met just yesterday.

"It does feel like it."

"Hm? What does?" Kanae smiled at him as they were coming back to camp after looking for more wild vegetables to eat.

"No, it's nothing." Iguro said as he still kept his distance around them, though, Kanae didn't seem to mind at all, which was unusual for him to see.

Others will often be put off.

Though he couldn't help it, the fear of another person touching him still lingered in his mind, and it didn't help that Kanae looked a lot like one of his cousins.

The only people who could at least hold his hand were the flame hashira, Mitsuri, Urokodaki, and Sabito. He was close friends with Giyuu and Makomo but since they were girls, it became a whole lot harder for him to let them in.
