Kiara's POV:

I couldn't even keep myself together as I climbed up the stairs to my room, with Shubman following me. Sometimes, I question myself, why is it that no matter what I do my anxiety gets the best of me? The air around me fell short as I tried to control my ragged breathing, inhaling and exhaling deep breathes.

Shubman hadn't uttered a word after I asked to talk to him in person. I didn't even know what he might be thinking of me right now. But wait, why do I even care? His opinion about me doesn't matter, does it? I mean, not unless we two get in an actual relationship.

He followed me quietly after his father instructed him to. I wonder if he's always this subservient to his parents. Or if he really wanted to talk to me about this alliance. I wonder what thoughts he's been having after his parents told him about this alliance. Wait, what if he's doing all this under family pressure?

"Careful!" I heard him say and felt his hand brush against mine as I almost tripped on the last step, lost in my own thoughts.

This damn saree!

"Okay?" He asked as I turned my face away from him. I'd mistakenly stepped on the pleats of my saree, thus ruining it all.

God, can this get anymore embarrassing?

"Y.. Yeah." I choked out, trying to do the pleats in a hurry.

"Di!" Aisha called me, standing behind.

"Aish, come here."

"Oh, shit!" She muttered, watching it all. She knew what efforts it took to hold them in a place.

"Hey, um, can you give us two minutes, please?" She requested Shubman. And then rushed me in my room.

"Oh, God!" I sighed, entering my room. I wanted to cry. I just embarrassed myself in front of that guy. What he must be thinking about all this? God, times like this makes me miss my Mamma and Dadi so much, if they'd been here, they'd never let me embarrass myself. They'd have helped me in draping the saree properly, unlike Mami.

"Di! Which one?" Aish called me suddenly and I found myself heaving for I was about to cry.

"Shh.. Di, calm down, it's fine really. You wearing it for the first time na, that's why."

"Di, c'mon now, that poor guy is waiting for you outside." She gave me a hug before ushering me to washroom to change my clothes.

"Ready?" She asked me, before walking out. I nodded my head.

Let's do this, Kiara!

"Hey!" I said, putting my head round the door.

"Hii." He looked up from his phone.

"Come on in." I said, opening the door for him.

He walked in the room, very slowly, his eyes moving around, scrutinizing the place.

"Take a seat, please." Stop Kiara, stop being so formal, he isn't your patient, and this isn't your hospital.

He sat in a chair opposite me as I sat on my bed. He smiled as I took my bunny in my lap. Bunny is my pink teddy bear which my grandparents had gifted me on my seventh birthday.

"Okay, this is quite awkward already." I said, chuckling at the end.

We were two complete strangers left in a room to talk about our marriage. The fact that I was gonna get married to a stranger hurted so bad, I couldn't explain.

"It is." He chuckled a bit too. "Uh, you've a nice room."

"Um, it's cozy but I love it this way." I said.
