Friday - Southwest Miami High

"Oh Mickey, you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind! Hey, Mickey! Hey, Mickey! Oh Mickey, you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind! Hey, Mickey! Hey, Mickey!"

The cheerleaders shouted to the echoing beat of music booming through the school's stereos hauled out from the AV center. They clapped in formation and did their routine on the track around the football field, waving their spirited Pom-Poms and shaking exactly what their momma gave them. The flyers were lifted and thrown in the air, tossed over and caught. Normani led the squad and skipped around, hyping up the crowd during halftime. All girls and boys on the squad could light an entire stadium with their cheesy grins and glitter Eagles designs decorated on their faces. Nothing was off beat or even too serious. You could call this genuine choreographed fun.

Karla stepped side to side while clapping, gaining more confidence and momentum to keep dancing without embarrassing herself. She jumped and threw a fist in the air, then both arms, expanded them then clapped, kicked as high as she could, switched spots and focused too hard on the steps of Normani's complex choreograph. Her world span and flipped when she did, flinging herself backwards onto strong hands that lifted her in the air into a bow-and-arrow pose. Normani and Carlie were up in the air beside her, more at ease than Karla was.
