SNAP

My heart dropped as the screeching sound of the snapping wires filled my ears. It was the only thing I could hear besides my rapid heartbeat. Then, I shot down and I couldn't help but scream in utter fear. The wire quickly went down but I was almost at the end of it anyway so I wasn't going to immediately hit the ground.

The wire threw me through a window two stories below the others like a whip and I smashed through the glass. I rolled across the ground and my skin scrapped across the concrete. I took a second to just lay there and catch my breath. Shakily, I got on my hands and knees and pushed myself up. I tried standing but when I put pressure on my leg, pain shot through. I winced but ignored it, at least I could stand.

I prompted myself against a pillar and looked back at the base, my home for years. I only got one last look before the entire place exploded. I could feel the heat and I covered my eyes from the bright light. I know I should have been sad, but I wasn't. I didn't care much for that place, never had, not since my mother. The only thing I thought of was Brenda and Thomas. I hoped to god that they were okay, or at least better then dead.

I ran my hands through my hair and took another deep breath, sliding down the pillar to sit as my leg was screaming for me to rest. Then I heard the rushing of footsteps coming in my direction.

"(Y/n)!" I heard my father call.

"Where are you?!" The British accent of Newt called.

Before I could say anything, a boy came in and found me. It was Minho.

"I found her!" He screamed as he gently grabbed me and threw my arm over his shoulder. "Your stupid." He told me and I was taken aback.

"How was I supposed to know that would happen?" I asked and he shrugged with a smile.

"You wouldn't. I was just stating the obvious." I couldn't help but smile at him too.

My father quickly found us, taking me from
Minho and looking me over. He looked worried, but I wasn't surprised since I nearly died.

"Are you okay?" He asked and I wanted to say no, but I put on a brave face.

"Just a few scratches." I told him. "I'm fine."

"So what now?" Aris asked but I looked over to see Newt staring out to the burning building.

"Hey, he isn't dead." I told him and that caught Newt's attention. "Brenda is smart, she knows what she's doing. Thomas is safe with her."

"We should start to get going now, we have to get to Marcus before they do." Jorge said and I looked up to him.

"Wait, like Marcus Marcus? You think that jack-ass if going to help us?" I asked and Jorge shrugged.

"He's going to have to." Was all the man said. Marcus was an old friend of my father's after the Solar Flares. Before we found our compound we were living with him and his crew. That was until he started going mad and giving up on life while we were determined to keep going. Me, Jorge, Brenda, and my mother left when we had the chance. I always hated him, especially when he would force me to call him Uncle Marcus.

"(Y/n), you said you had supplies, right?" Fry asked and my father looked at me confused but I ignored it.

"Yeah, we should grab those and then go. We have to collect ourselves." I said and they all nodded. I let got off Minho and limped along on my own, the others shortly behind.

I lead them down to the ground floor of the building and through a door to the basement. Before I closed the door, I flipped a tarp over it to hide it from any WICKED guards that may have survived, which I was sure there wasn't but better safe then sorry. I closed the door and turned to follow them all down the stair case.
