Overflow

Chapter 19:

I sigh in annoyance as I hold my hand to my nose. "I'll be back," I say, before rushing out of the security office.

When I get to the bathroom, I'm grateful to see that my nose had already stopped bleeding. Looking into the mirror, I wipe away the small bit of blood that had trickled down my face. I reach to turn on the sink when suddenly the bathroom lights go off. I quickly wash my hands in the dark, making sure to wipe the last of the blood from my face as well. 

When I'm finished, I slowly open the bathroom door. Looking out into the hallway I notice some lights flashing from the small deli, whoever was in there must have found flashlights.

Leaving the bathroom, I first head towards the office, only to find it empty. "Where's Eun-hyuk?" I ask myself before deciding to head to the store.

As I get near the store, I hear a voice speaking. "Can you stay in the management office? I need to check the electrical room. I saw some places outside that still had lights on. A blackout would affect the whole district." The voice says.

"I think it's just this building." Another voice adds in.

"I'll confirm that when I go down there." Says the first voice. I now recognize it to have been Eun-hyuk speaking. 

I stop in the doorway of the store, standing just behind Eun-hyuk now. In the store was the firefighter, and the old man and his wife.

"That's all the food we have, so we have to be quick." Eun-hyuk states. 

Peaking over his shoulder, I see that the freezers full of food had already started to melt due to the power being turned off.

"What? Hey, you don't think this is all yours? Don't be fucking ridiculous." The old man says. 

"We'll have nothing if everything melts, anyway." His wife says, trying to reason with her husband, only instead, he yells back at her.

"Why don't you just shut up!" He yells, about to raise his hand at her before he remembers that there are other people in the room.

After a moment of silence, Yi-Kyung speaks. "I'll do it." She says, as she turns around to a shelf and starts putting a few items into a bag.

"Hey! What do you think you're doing?!" The old man yells.

"You're stealing, you know!" He continues to yell when he sees that she is not paying attention to him.

"It's an emergency." She finally says, before grabbing a flashlight off of another shelf.

She turns to leave the store so I move out of the way, allowing her space to leave. Eun-hyuk turns around too, now noticing that I was here.

"I'll be back, I have to speak with her first," He tells me before going after Yi-Kyung. 

Not wanting to be left around the rude old man, I follow after him. Eun-hyuk pulls an item from his pocket before handing it to Yi-Kyung. "It was charging. I don't know how long it'll last you." He says. I notice the item to be a walkie-talkie.
