Eun-hyuk POV:
It had been a few minutes since I finished bandaging Ji-Eun's wound. I had just finished packing away the medkit when I look back over at her. She seemed to be lost in thought. I could tell that whatever happened down there, she was still scared. However, I needed to know what happened to her. And where was Yi-Kyung?
Back to Ji-Eun's POV:
Feeling a hand on my shoulder, I jump slightly. With a panicked scream, I swing my hands at whatever or whoever was reaching out to me. Only when my hands are grabbed and held down do I realize it was Eun-hyuk standing before me. Not the spider creature.
"It's just me," Eun-hyuk says, letting go of my hands when he knows that I won't swing at him again.
"I'm sorry. I thought you were the..." I say, letting my voice fade to nothingness as I think about the creature in the basement.
He sighs before adjusting the glasses on his face. Eun-hyuk walks back until his back is leaning against a wall. He folded his arms as he started to speak. "I need you to tell me what happened? And what happened to Yi-Kyung? Why didn't she come back with you?" He asks. I could tell that he had a different array of emotions playing through his head right now, as did I.
"When we went down, everything seemed fine." I start, remembering the recent events.
"We made it to the electrical room with no issues. And Yi-Kyung flipped the switch and the lights came back on. That's when-" I say, remembering what I had seen. I remember turning around just in time to see Yi-Kyung get dragged away from me. The image flashed through my mind again.
"We went to leave but.... when I turned around, the monster had her. I just remember her yelling for me to run. So I did. But then I fell, and the flashlight broke and the monster was right there." I continue to speak, recalling how scary the monster looked when I had gotten a closer look at it.
Eun-Hyuk POV"
"Do you think Yi-Kyung will survive?" Ji-eun asks. When I look at her, I could tell that she was scared. I could also tell just how innocent she was. Before, it seemed as if she was just brave enough to handle what was going on. But now, when it's just us two alone, I can see that she is terrified.
I think back to the creature I had seen on the basement cameras. I knew that it was dangerous to go there in the first place, but we needed the power to be turned back on. And now, with the power back on, and with Ji-eun safe, sacrificing Yi-Kyung didn't seem like such a horrible thing to have done.
Back to Ji-Eun's POV:
"Do you think Yi-Kyung will survive?" I ask.
"We can only hope that she does," Eun-Hyuk tells me. He steps away from the wall now, coming to stand before me now.
"We should get back." He tells me. I only nod in agreement, taking in a breath before sliding off of the countertop. I slightly wince in pain as I feel my wound stretch with my movement.
"Take it easy for now. I know you most likely won't bleed out to death, but you don't want to gain any more injuries." Eun-Hyuk says as he reaches for the bathroom door. He holds it open, allowing me to exit first before he follows me out into the hall.
I turn to Eun-Hyuk, looking at him as I speak. "Thank you for helping me... I don't trust anyone here, Not yet at least." I say, looking away after saying this.
"But you trusted me so easily. You've known me just as long as you've known anyone else here." He responds, adjusting his glasses on the bridge of his nose.
"Well, that's because-" I start to respond, only to be cut off by an alert noise playing in the air.
Eun-Hyuk and I lock eyes, before turning to run down the hall. We follow the noise until we reach the daycare center. Inside, the television was turned on, with who appeared to be the President giving a speech.
"The government is working hard to keep us safe. And they will." The president says. He seems to grunt in pain before he falls, leaving the screen.
"What's wrong?" I hear the old store owner ask from where he sat on the floor. However, his question was soon answered when the President suddenly reappeared on the screen. Only this time, he was covered in blood, which appeared to be pouring from his eyes and a hole in his face.
The president mutters a few curses as blood continues to pour down his face. "Everyone is going to die!" He yells into the cameras before a gunshot is heard and he disappears from the screen.
Everyone gasps in shock at the scene. I just hold my breath, frozen in place as I watched the disturbing scene unfold on the television.
The camera angle changes, and we see the president climbing up from the ground, seeming only slightly fazed by having just been shot. "You are all going to die!" He continues to yell, running towards the camera before armed guards suddenly appeared to grab him. There was more commotion on the screen before a female soldier walks up and pulls out a gun. She fires multiple shots at the president before the screen goes dark, an error noise playing as the signal is now lost.
"What? Is the president dead?" The store owner asks, looking around as if to see if we had the answers to his question.
"But they'll come and save us, right?" Asks a guy wearing a blue striped shirt and glasses. He seemed extremely nervous, but who could blame him.
Then, the room breaks out into screaming and arguing as everyone tried to figure out what was going on. I just stayed where I stood, lost in a trance, unaware of all the conversations and arguing just around me. Only when I feel someone nudge my side do I regain my focus.
