Chapter 3: Breakfast (Amelia's POV)

Michael groaned softly in the passenger seat while I drove us back. Michael doesn't usually get drunk, but when he does, he's a handful, to say the least. He complains, he gets touchy and demands hugs, he whines about everything, he makes crazy demands. He wants slushies at two in the morning and hot chocolate at three. He somewhat forgets that I'm his assistant now and not his girlfriend.

And I don't bother to tell him what he did when he wakes up sober the next morning. I know Michael better than I know anybody else and I know how much he hates being embarrassed like anyone would. But it goes beyond that.

He blows up. He gets extremely angry when he's humiliated for something that, essentially, he shouldn't be humiliated for. I know where that problem comes from too and it's not something anybody should bring up with Michael. It's a fragile topic. "Lia," he mumbled.

"Yeah?" I turned, glancing at him.

"Where are we going?"

"I'm taking you home."

"Our home?" he sang, reaching over and grabbing my arm.

I took my hand off the wheel, letting him hold it.

"We bought a home?" he asked, holding my hand under his chin.

I hummed softly, "We did. You want to tell me what happened next?"

"Did we... Hmm... Get married?"

"Apparently," I mumbled, nearing his apartment building.

"And our kids?"

"Our kids, huh? The ones you wanted, of course. A little girl named Emma."

"And a boy named Leo," he chuckled and then hummed in content. Those are both his parents' names. Michael doesn't talk much about his parents and he doesn't really remember them either because he was so young when he lost them. But he remembers exactly what happened that night and that memory still haunts him. And he gets really sad whenever he thinks about it too. "Emma and Leo, Leo and Emma," he sighed, moving away from me and staring out the window.

I glanced at him. "Michael... you okay?"

"Mm-hmm."

"All right. Just sit tight, please, we're almost there."

"Why?"

I looked over at him again. "Why what?"

"Why did it have to happen to me? Hmm?"

"It shouldn't have happened to you, but it just did. I'm sorry nobody could do anything."

He sighed loudly, "It's okay. If you really give me little Emma and little Leo."
