Chapter 16: Winner (Michael's POV)

The bus stopped at the hotel and we finally arrived. We took so many pit stops on this trip, I have no doubt that Vince and Demi beat us to the hotel. The game is tomorrow and we were meant to get here this afternoon. It's almost eight pm.

"Are we having a bonfire?" Christian asked while we sat in the lobby as our assistants went and got their own room keys along with ours.

"Vince isn't coming," I said, leaning back in the seat. "He got here early at noon and he's had a vacation. He's not bothering to come out today," I chuckled softly.

"I'm exhausted from the bus ride. I might have to take a rain check," Cody exhausted.

"Same here. I'm tapping out," Lucas nodded in agreement.

"Yeah, my ass is broken," Logan added.

Christian and I looked at each other, both of us shrugging a shoulder each. "Let's skip it," I suggested.

"All right."

I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and Amelia was standing there, holding out my key card. "Here."

"Wow," I heard Logan gasp. "How cruel, Amelia. You beat the others to it and got yours and Michael's keys. Now you'll leave us to sit and wait while you two go and rest up. How mean," he scoffed.

I got up, stretching mildly as Amelia flashed him a sheepish smile before waving at everyone else, wishing them goodnight. We stepped into the elevator together and the doors closed with a ding.

She stayed quiet, keeping her hands in front of her, clasped together. "Are you excited for the game tomorrow?" she asked, turning to look at me.

I shrugged.

"Nervous?" she questioned.

"Not really," I mumbled. "It's only the preseason." I felt her eyes still on me even as I faced forward, watching the floor number countdown increase, each number bigger than the last. "What is it, Amelia? Why are you staring at me?"

"I know it's tough, but you have to stop thinking about your parents, Michael."

My jaw hardened and I turned, my eyes snapping to hers.

"You have a game to play tomorrow night and if you don't get out of your head, you won't be able to play properly. You know that, don't you? It's hard, I know. It hurts you."

The elevator doors opened with a new ding, the automated voice announcing, "Seventh floor."

She stepped out and spun around, facing me, holding the doors open. "But you have to shut it out. You have to." Her brows lifted slightly, asking me for confirmation, asking me if I understood. Asking. Just asking if I was okay.
