For context, we're reading Farewell to Manzanar and we were talking about the point where Papa burns his flag from Hiroshima.My teacher told us that it's actually a crime to burn the American flag, and you can go to jail for it. I asked if that wasn't technically a violation of the right to political protest and freedom of speech, and she said "Well, it's in the Constitution, so it must be law."
