Lieutenant Miles Smith is quite young for an officer , joining the navy back at 2022 at the age of 20, he got himself stationed at Holsworth Liverpool for Marine Training then got transferred at HMAS Kattabul for Naval training, he did quite well and even got himself stationed on HMAS Ballarat and got Promoted to a Petty Officer

After that he got his whole life planned out with a bank account he's already saving, that all went down the drain when the abyssals came

They hit the French and Brits first sinking dozens of Civilian and Military ships alike, then the next day they hit the Pacific, with islands falling left right and center from the abyssal onslaught with island nations suffering the hardest, They tried to fight back of course but whatever enabled the abyssals to come into being in the first place also rendered modern tech inoperable or at least not as effective as they should be with only some detection systems having an effect

Then Missiles came in to play and they were effective IF they hit but with a chance of missing of 70% it was simply not viable especially for how expensive they are to assemble, it would bankrupt any military using bombs are more effective when fighting the abyssals in this particular case, It has been theorized that some sort of abyssal interference or electronic warfare is the cause, the question is, if if the abyssals themselves actively know and use this interference or if it's some sort of byproduct of abyssal corruption

And with the failure of Operation Blue Skies which aimed to secure the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand all efforts were redirected into evacuating the populace.

that led to the ship he is stationed on to be sent to New Zealand in hopes of securing the ocean surrounding the Australian Continent, they encountered an abyssal fleet composing of 2 cruisers and 4 destroyers which turned to engage their fleet of five modern frigates as well as two American destroyers.

The fleet was forced to retreat when the abyssals sunk 4 of their frigates and crippling the last as well as sinking one American destroyer while the other taking critical damage, with the HMAS Ballarat crippled it was deemed to expensive to repair and was then sold to scrap. Additional missions led to the same outcome or worse a complete destruction of the invasion fleet like what happened to Taskforce 12 which consisted of 4 Destroyers 6 Frigates 12 Support Vessels and one Helicopter Carrier. The failure of Taskforce 12 snuffed out all hope of saving New Zealand. Further Investigation revealed that the abyssal fleet was working for the Rabaul Princess in Indonesia whose territorial expansion rivaled those of other princesses in the region, her rapidly increasing fleet only further dimmed hope of the survival of Australia.

That led to him being transferred back at the Naval base to serve as a communications operator, and right now he's on his way or is supposed to be on his way to the captain's office

A gruff voice spoke from behind the man, "Smith, you alright?", the voice shaking him out of his stupor he turned to face the man behind him, the glare of the sun from one of the windows making him wince

a look of surprise crossing his face before answering, "Ah Johnston, yeah I fine just got a little dazed", he said sheepishly and a wry smile on his lips

"Thinking about your wife and kids?", The man Johnston asked, Smith face fell his lips curving down into a small frown, "No need to answer, I get it your worried yeah?"

a self-deprecating sigh escaping his lips, "Yeah...just worried you know? with Madeline getting sick and Mom in the hospital, there's no one their to take care of the kids, ...well there's dad and he's great and all but he's getting old and with the stress I'm also getting worried of him getting sick too, then there's Mad's parents dying a year back..."
