I freeze.

No, no.

This is a train wreck.

I know that I should grab my gun and fire, but I can't move. I see the bullets come from either side of me as the guards drop.

Too much death.

Without looking at them, I continue on.

The room is locked. Of course it's locked.

Drake pushes me aside. He takes a metal stake from his pocket and smashes the lock.

"Why'd you have that?" Dillan asks.

"Found it on the ground outside. I was somehow suddenly clutching it and pocketed it."

"Solid," he responds.

How can they be so calm in a time like this?

We push our way into the room.

It's empty.

"Did you really think they wouldn't move them?!" Demands Drake.

As he continues to yell, I hear a faint sound in the background. Shushing Drake, I approach a closet door. I listen.

Voices.

They must have panicked and hidden. All of my fear melts away for a few moments as I zone in.

"They're in here," I whisper. "Get ready."

Motioning to 3 with my fingers, I yank the door open. Everyone starts shooting.

Everyone except Dillan, who stares at my shaking hand in concern.

I ignore him to focus on my shots, dropping one man after another.

My hands are too shaky. I can hardly hit my mark.

By the time the room goes still, I'm sobbing.

Too much death. Too many innocent lives.

A voice crawls into my ear, pulling me from my despair.

"The escape helicopter is outside the north entrance. Hurry."

Selena and Dillan support my weight as we run through the halls.
________________________________

The whole way back, people are trying to talk to me.

I can't hear them.

I tune them out, focusing on collecting my own thoughts.

Was it worth it? Killing thousands of people and the world leaders for two people who died over 10 years ago?

The answer should've been no. It was no.

But this job also wasn't my choice. It was the agents'. They made the plan and forced us to follow it.

I didn't get a choice.

It was all part of the job.

Besides, the government leaders were corrupt. It's time for there to be a new set of people to rule the world.

Selena sits by me silently, putting her own small hand on mine. It shakes, but she tries to conceal it. I look at her, and she smiles tenderly. There is a strong fear in her eyes.

This poor girl's first job was a blood bath.

I feel myself calming down, coming back together. I need to stay strong for her. I can't let her descend into darkness.

Slowly, I embrace her. She cries on my shoulder. We stay like that until the plane dips downwards.

As we land, a thought hits me.

Am I doing the world a favor? What will become of it now?
