I knew the next morning would be awkward. With Danny and I not talking, and him having to hide the large black eye, I knew it wouldn't end well.

"Good morning." I greeted as I walked into the kitchen and sat at the table where mom had toast and eggs. "Thank you for breakfast, mom," I said before eating.

A few minutes later Daniel came out wearing a large pair of dark sunglasses. "How was the party?" She asked the two of us. "It was okay," he said shortly. "I met some friends. One is named Ali and the others Bobby." I said, annoyed that Daniel was speaking so shortly.

"I gotta go," Daniel said as he took a bite out of the toast and a large gulp of orange juice. "Eat first." Mom insisted. "I'm not hungry," Daniel replied. "I didn't ask if you were hungry. You need the energy to be charming." She replied.

"I got energy, see ya." He said and I rolled my eyes, he couldn't be any more suspicious. "Daniel, take off the glasses." She said. "why?" He replied. "Because I asked you to."

"Hey ma, it's California." He said, trying to get her off his case. "Take 'em off. I wanna see them baby browns." She said and I smiled at that, mom always talked about our eyes.

"Ma, cmon." He groaned and I could see the cogs turning in her head. "Are you on something?" She asked. Well, that's not what I was expecting, but to be fair, he did kind've look like he was trying to hide being high.

"Yeah, minute maid." He replied sarcastically. "Why are you hiding your eyes?" She asked. "I'm not hiding my eyes." He defended. "Then take off the glasses." She replied. "Ma." He wined.

"Now!" She exclaimed, slamming her hand on the table causing me to jump. He stood still for a moment before pulling off the glasses slowly, reviewing the dark swollen black eye.

"Oh my gosh!" She exclaimed as she came up to him and moved his head from side to side before doing the same to me. "Lia, where were you during this? Why didn't you tell me?" She asked angrily. "Daniel doesn't need my help anymore, ma. Said it himself." I said with a smile, still butthurt at what he had said.

"Lia, I already said I was sorry!" Daniel pleaded. "It doesn't matter. You know deep down a part of you meant what you said." I snapped before turning to mom. "Thank you for breakfast. Love you." I said before leaving.

I quickly hopped on my bike and made my way to school. I thought over the conversation on the way, how Daniel thought I would just forget it even happened. Once at school I harshly pushed my bike into the bike rack and put a bike lock around it.

When someone placed a hand on my shoulder I turned and pushed them away from me slightly thinking it would be Daniel. "Jeez, someone's feisty." Bobby joked. "Sorry, I thought you were- never mind," I said shaking my head.

"You're mad." He said simply. "That obvious?" I replied as we began walking towards the school. "What's wrong?" He asked. "Nothing, just Daniel. I'm still upset about what he said. I'm responding reasonably, right?" I asked.
