Growing up and being told,
By a school system that fails me now,
"You're gifted with intelligence"
Feels more like a cold whisper
Of what was once was trueFeeling proud of a gift I worked for
Slowly seeing everyone else
Rise above me, one by one
Until I lost them all, lost the giftSimple concepts I should understand
Small, little things I should know
Fall flat, unable to comprehend
What once was fact, now liesMy want for knowledge, sense of pride
Now null from a school system
That taught me nothing but the same
"You're gifted with intelligence"
Now gifted with clipped wings.
