Chapter 13

I am currently in the extra room getting ready for the dinner party

I am beginning to get frustrated when I can't zip up the zipper at the back of my dress "need a hand?" Venom asks "I can't do this, it's just a stupid dumb zipper" I complain, Bucky walks into the room silently and looks at me through the mirror "what is it?" I ask, Bucky grabs the zipper and zips up my dress carefully "I'm sorry for my outburst" Bucky whispers "you look beautiful" he adds while brushing my hair to one side of my shoulder and stroking the other softly "I really am sorry, this arm reminds me of a bad part of my life" Bucky says, I turn around to face him and begin to fix his collar and flatten his shirt "it's okay, you just can't scare me that way. Venom is very protective of me and if he didn't like you the little bit that he does you would be missing a head right about now" I say "you look great" I say and Bucky smiles "I'm sorry to you too Venom" Bucky whispers "okay" Venom says so that Bucky can also hear making me smile

"Shall we then?" Bucky asks and I nod, we link arms and walk out of the house and towards Angela's overly massive and overly decorated house "I'm going to have to make friends with her aren't?" I whine and Bucky let's out a little laugh "yes you will doll" Bucky replies, I give him a little pout "meaning you will have to make friends with Gerard" I say in a snobby tone and Bucky laughs, I don't take long to join him "I thought I heard you guys" Angela says opening the door just as we're about to knock "that was fast" I say smiling, the green dress she is wearing looks beautiful and elegant, matching her pale complexion perfectly "you look beautiful" I say with a smile "as do you" Angela replies while making way for Bucky and I to walk in "everyone is at the back with the band, feel free to find your way around" Angela says and I nod as we walk away

"I might have to sneak around" Bucky whispers "not yet" I whisper "what do you mean not yet?" Bucky whispers, I pull him into a corner and shake my head "this is the first time we are meeting the people of this neighbourhood, if we get caught snooping this soon the whole mission goes to shit. Today we just act like a couple and blend in" I say "and make this mi-" Bucky begins to say but I shut him up by pulling him into a long kiss, "what was that?" He whispers "oh to be young and newly wed" Angela says from behind Bucky, I give her a small smile and drag Bucky away from the corner and into the crowd. I begin to look around to see an overly friendly couple in the middle of the dance floor, smiling and laughing along with everyone. Angela is staring angrily clearly annoyed that they're here "come with me" I say "hi" I say happily "are you our new neighbours?" The small curly haired hippie looking lady asks and I nod

"Nice tô meet you, I am Grace and this Joey. We moved in last night" I say excited "I am Rosita and this is my husband Benny, we have been living here for longer than I can remember" she says with a huge smile on her face "when did you get married?" Benny asks "We got married 2 months ago, March 4th" I say "how did he propose?" Rosita asks "I took her to the beach where I got these massive letters that read out 'will you marry me' and there were candles and rose petals all around" Bucky replies "why the beach?" Benny asks "it was her favourite place to go as a kid and she hadn't been there in a long time" Bucky replies, I look up at him with a smile surprised that this is what he chose as our fake proposal "and the wedding?" Rosita asks "it was with just our closest friends, behind this cute little cottage that we used to go to for all of our holidays from work" I say "it was simple but she looked amazing, everything I had ever dreamed" Bucky says looking into my eyes, his blue eyes sparkling

"Everything we had ever dreamed" I say smiling, a waiter comes over offering some champagne which we both take "We will give you guys some space" Rosita says walking away "they're so nice" I say happily "which is why they're our main suspects" I say "I though Miss Judgy was our main suspect" Bucky says and I nod "was, they are too nice. Want to come off as the hippie lovely couple that everyone gets along with except for-" I begin to say "Except for Miss Judgy, meaning she would be the first suspect and nobody would expect them" Bucky says "exactly" I say "so what do we do doll?" Bucky asks "we get ourselves invited to their house somehow" I say "why don't you go for a walk my love" I say with a smirk before pecking his lips and walking over to Rosita who was standing on her own "hey" I say happily "hi" Rosita replies "so what do you really think about the people in this neighbourhood?" I ask looking around

"I think their lovely except Angela and her husband don't like us very much" Rosita says "why is that?" I ask curiously "she thinks I am too happy to be true, she's a little snoopy so watch out for open windows" Rosita says with a wink "I don't see her problem with you at all, you are so lovely" I say "the perfect neighbour to have around" I continue to praise her, Rosita smiles "would you and your husband like to join us for lunch tomorrow?" I ask "that sounds nice" Rosita says and i smile "then I shall see you tomorrow" I say tapping her shoulder softly before walking back to Bucky "let's go husband" I say linking arms with him and dragging him away "everything okay?" Bucky asks and I nod "we will be having guests tomorrow" I say "who?" He asks "Rosita and Benny will be over for lunch" I say once we leave Angela's house

"Why?" He asks "because we need them to see that we are harmless and completely normal, meaning your arm has to come out tomorrow soldier" I say and he frowns "before you were a lawyer you were a soldier, you lost your arm in battle but you are extremely proud of your battle scars" I whisper "except you know how I feel about the arm" Bucky complains as we walk into our temporary house "and you're going to have to put that aside Bucky, for the sake of this mission. I just need you to trust me" I say and he nods

After changing into my pyjamas and getting comfortable, I join Bucky in bed "you need to stop being ashamed of what happened and embrace it, your arm isn't a curse Buck" I whisper "I have too much blood on my hands because of it" Bucky says and I give him a small smile as I brush his hair away from his face "the blood on your hands isn't there because of this arm" I say attempting to touch it, but he moves away, I rest my hand on his arm disregarding his warning look "the blood that was spilt on your hands is only there because Hydra stained you with the blood of their enemies not because of you Barnes. You're bigger than that, don't be ashamed, be proud that even after everything you now have the freedom to use this for good" I whisper, Bucky just looks into my eyes "you're amazing, do you know that?" Bucky asks "I've been told once or twice" I say with a smile while moving closer to him

Bucky's metal arm snakes around me and pulls me closer to his chest showing me that he is now comfortable enough around me
