BAU Boy Genius One Shots [Spencer Reid x Reader]

Friends, Speeches, and Confessions Part 1

Prompt: Spencer asks you as his best friend to help prepare a speech with him. The team seems to have other thoughts about your relationship with Spencer. Can they eventually get through to you two?

"Hey Spence" you say answering your phone
"Y/n I need your help" Spencer says almost with a laugh
"Anything, well...maybe not anything, but what do you need?"
"I was asked to do a presentation about the BAU at one of the middle schools. You're good with kids y/n. Would you help me?" Spencer almost pleads through the phone, you laugh at his desperation. He is a genius but is always second guessing himself.
"I'll be right over"
"Thank you thank you, see you in a few " Spencer hangs up

Just as your get into your car to drive to Spencers another call comes through your phone

"Hey Pen... you okay?" you ask answering the call
"Can't your best friend call you without something being wrong?" She laughs
"Of course you can"
"You busy tonight?" Penelope asks
"I am, I was just about to go to Spencers"
"Mmm date night?" She jokes
"What? No, he wants help with a speech or something"

"Ohh the speech that he wants to give to you to ask you to be his girlfriend" She laughs, you can tell she is proud of that joke

"Funny Penelope... Spencer and I are just friends, I don't know why you all dont understand that" You say emphasising 'just', Penelope and the rest of the team seem to think that you and Spencer are perfect together, and they enjoy making that very clear.

"Well you have fun tonight with your boyfriend not boyfriend"
"Not boyfriend" you yell through the phone as she hangs up.

Driving to Spencer you laugh at the thought of him being your boyfriend. You have been with the team a few years now and Spencer has been your best friend since almost day one. Sometimes you could tell the jokes from the team about you two would make him uncomfortable, he would become quiet, sometimes blushing, this would cause him to become a bit distant from you for a few hours until things would blow over. You would try to protect him from this and say things to make the the team direct their jokes towards you instead.

Walking up to Spencer's door you don't even get the chance to knock before he is swinging the door open with a big smile on his face.

"Thank God you're here, I think I found the perfect joke to start my speech off with"
"Is it your lightbulb joke? You say holding back a laugh

"Yes... you know me too well" Spencer says flopping down onto his couch

"Spence, while that joke is very funny. Remember you are talking to twelve year olds." you sit down next to him looking at the papers he has littered across his coffee table.

"That's why I thought it was the perfect joke" he crosses his arms and pouts

"Yes, for when you were twelve, most kids are not like you... well most people are not like you. Okay how about this one; one day a psychologists assistant called her and said 'you have a client here who thinks he's invisible' the psychology says 'tell him i can't see him right now'" you laugh at your joke, Spencer eyes you for a second and laughs

"That's terrible" he says throwing his head back with laughter
"Better than yours" you give him a small push.
He shakes his head.

"Shut up, let's work on this speech"
The two of you spend the next little bit preparing what Spencer should talk about. You decide that he should look at what psychology is, the BAU, and tell some stories about catching criminals. You told him to tell the stories to which Spencer says he will make sure to only tell the cool ones.

"Oh I got a call from Penelope" Spencer says eyeing you
"Ah yes, me too, she wanted to see what I was doing tonight"

"She called me after she spoke with you, asked me about my speech. I told her you were coming over to help me... She said 'have fun but not too much' what do you think that means?" He asks looking at you
