Thirty-five

The next couple of days were all about training. I tried talking to miguel about the situation at prom but he said he couldn't be distracted before the all valley. He promised we would talk about it after the tournament

"You ready?" Miguel asks as i walk out of the ladies room with the one other girl on the Eagle fang team. Devon lee. She was a badass activist. She was a bit younger than me but I could see she had a lot of potential.

"Yup, let's kick some ass" i say smiling at him and Devon

We were all in our red gi's and waited outside of the gym for our dojo name to be called

"Please welcome Eagle fang karate, led by sensei johnny lawrence and defending champion miguel diaz" The announcer says

The first part of the tournament was showing off our skills, so no actual fights. I did a routine with a bow staff and got everything right. Assface on the other hand did not. His flung his bow at the judges. Hopefully mine makes up for that in our scores.

Eli was up now and he was set up to break about five boards. He got every one except for the highest one. I felt really bad after seeing the look on his face. His eyes meet mine as he looks around at all the faces and i lightly smile which he returns.

It was now the one on one fights. The younger students were first and Devon was crushing it. She lost her last fight but she said it best, she's only been at this for six weeks. I can't imagine where she'll place at next years.

"Now be honest with me Devon. It ain't looking so good for us. With Quinn and miguel what are our chances at winning" johnny asks and the look on her face tells us it all.

"Well for Miguel to win the boys he has to win every fight" she replies

"Okay that isn't impossible" i say

"Ok and what about Quinn?" Johnny asks

"Quinn has a better shot because she's higher up. She has room for about one loss in her upcoming matches" she says and i smile

" I can do it" i say looking at my dad and he smiles

"I know" he says patting my back

My first fight is against piper from cobra kai. I heard my dad tried to recruit her but it obviously didn't work.

I easily win against her because I know all the dirty tricks kreese was teaching her.

Now it was time for a fight I've been excited to see. Eli versus Miguel. They were both my good friends but I really don't know who will win.

They begin fighting and miguel gets eli on the ground with a kick but it was blocked by his arm. They go again and miguel goes for some type of spin kick that I didn't know he had been working on.

Suddenly we hear a crack and Miguel's falls flat on the mat. The sound of him hitting the mat made both johnny and i flinch. We both immediately run onto the mat as miguel screams in pain. My dad, the ref, eli, and i were all kneeled down by Miguel looking over him. It felt like that day in the highschool all over again.

"SENSEI" he screams

When they bring miguel into one of the medic rooms johnny and I are the first to talk to him

"Oh my god are you okay" i ask

"Yeah yeah I think" he says groaning

"Oh my god miggy" his mom says as her and rosa enter the room. Johnny and I step back while he talks to his mom.

"Do you think you'll be okay to fight?" My dad asks once his mom and grandma leave

"I don't know sensei. I don't wanna risk hurting my back more" he says

"Quinn can you leave us for a second. You need to be in the head space for your next fight" my dad says and i nod giving miguel a smile before leaving

"Hey is he okay?" Devon asks when i get back

"Yeah but i don't know if he's gonna fight" i say

When Johnny gets back he seemed pretty confident that Miguel would be back on the mat for his next match. He was given 1 minute to be back on the mat for a fight before it was considered forfeit and miguel was no where to be seen.

"Alright it's all up to you easton. You got it" johnny says and the rest of the team rally's around me. I had to fight sam, and some other girl from a dojo i didn't know to make it to finals.

"And now Izzy stevens fighting out of whitworth dojo goes against Quinn easton from Eagle fang for a spot in the semi finals." The announcer says

"You got this quinn. You beat her and then all you have to do is beat sam to make it to the finals. Which you have done many times" johnny says and i nod

"Go get 'em" he says rubbing my shoulders before I get on the mat

"Face me, bow"

"Face each other, bow"

"Anddd, FIGHT!" The red says

She was a good fighter. Had a lot of technique and if her stamina could match up with that she would be having an easier time right now. After the first round where she scored a point by kicking my stomach she looked really tired. I can tell her sensei wish he saved one of his time out's for this match but luckily he didn't.

She was breathing heavily and slowing down which was good for me because I was just getting started. She went to sweep my legs but I dodged it and when she went to stand up i sweeped hers and when she hit the mat I landed a punch to her chest

"POINT EASTON" the ref yells

"ALRIGHT COME ON QUINN" my team yells and I see the miyagi do dojo also rooting for me making me smile. I needed one more point and I'd be in the semi finals

I threw the first punch which she dodged easily. We began throwing punches and kicks but nothing landed. She backed up and tried doing a flying spin kick into my chest but I knew the move. When she was facing me in the air I pushed her leg to the side with my hand and shoved her to the ground, striking her for the second time on her chest

"POINT EASTON. ROUND GOES TO EAGLE FANG" the ref says

"Looks like quinn easton will be fighting samantha larusso in the semi finals. They're fighting for a spot to fight tory nickels from cobra kai" the announcer says and my eyes fall into a smile.

"Yes good job kid almost there" johnny says as i jump off the mat

"Thanks" i say smiling through all my teams pats on the back as i look around for miguel

"He still not back? I ask and he shakes his head

"He'll be here for the finals right?" I ask

"I hope so kid" johnny says
