It has been two days since Ron abandoned Hermione. It has also been two days since Harry "left". She still finds it hard to believe that he would just leave like that, without any sort of notification. She was utterly disappointed, mostly because she was all alone, and quite frankly did not know where she was at all. She already knew that Ron's departure was deliberate, and that he probably feels no sympathy now. But Hermione also knew that Harry loved her, and promised to her that he would keep her safe, no matter what happened.
Hermione sits on her bed, her fingers running down her braided hair. This is basically how she has spent the two days in the boys' absence. She has no one to critique or yell at, but herself. She knows that she can, she knew that there are many things that she could tell at herself for, but she doesn't need to extra pain.
Hermione's eyes flicker around the room, her instincts poised. She hears a rattling noise and is cautious at first, but settles when she glances to the nightstand and sees the gold locket shaking tremendously. She picks it up. All the warm feelings are drained from her body. Not that there were many to begin with anyway.
Her fingers roam over the cold surface. She had to destroy it. But she didn't know how. Hermione, being a genius, was certain that the answer was in her book.
She smiled to herself and placed the locket back on the nightstand. Moshe felt a little warmer, but she wasn't even worried about that. She wasn't even worried about Harry or Ron anymore. The only thing she was focusing on was the locket, and how to destroy it, so things could be the way they were. Hermione, at Hogwarts, reading books from the library and yelling at Ron, and going to dangerous and forbidden places with Harry. She also missed talking to Ginny in the girls dormitory, and she missed Luna and her bright frizzy hair. She missed Dean and Seamus, and Fred and George. And believe it or not, Hermione missed Lavender. She was annoying, anyone could see that just by looking at her. But she didn't really care what other people thought about her and her relationships. Hermione looked up to people like that.
Her fingers traced over her new book that was a gift from Dumbledore. She picks it up with steady hands, and opens it to the first page. Blank. Just like the pages in her life right now.
The next page was the title page.
The Tales of Beedle and The Bard
by Beedle the BardShe smiled just by the title, and knew this was a fascinating series of stories. The first tale, was the Tale of the three brothers. Her eyes glanced to the top of the title page, where a symbol was drawn.
Yes drawn, Hermione examined the symbol and found that it was inked in to the book. The symbol was odd, and she had never seen it before. It looked like an eye sort of, it was a triangle, with a circle in the middle that was split in half by a line that was drawn straight down the middle of the triangle.
She identified it for many moments before pulling out her textbook and trying to look up the unknown symbol. She wished that one of the boys here would help her but she was also glad that she could have some thinking time to herself. Besides, their depletion was their choice. Hermione doubts that they are even thinking about her in their absence. If they did, why would hey leave her in the first place?
Suddenly, Hermione realized that this symbol was unknown in many things. It wasn't in any of her other resources, and she was positive that she has never come across it at any point in her life.
She looked at it for one more long moment before stuffing the book into her bag and grabbing her wand. She knew exactly what she had to do. The locket, and the book, were somehow connected, which is at least what Hermione thought. She needed to find a way to destroy the locket, and possibly the symbol has something to do with it. Was she absolutely sure, no.
She glanced around the tent, unsure if she was going to be returning. Just in case, she had her Extension Charm ready. She apparated.
Hermione knew that she needed the sword of Godric Gryffindor to destroy the locket, because the sword was impregnated with basilisk venom, which was the key to destroying horcruxes. Harry killed a basilisk in his second year using the sword, which is why it can destroy horcruxes.
Hermione opened her eyes. The snow of a fierce blizzard penetrated her soft skin, and she gasped as the cold impact reflected on her. She bundled up her chest and her hands so that some of the wind was concealed from her body. She began to walk, her feet hiking through the many feet of hard snow and ice. She still had her wand firmly grasped into her hand, and was a little bit scared because she was all alone, without anyone to comfort her. Quite frankly, she didn't want anyone to be with her. She was upset with Harry and plain out disgusted with Ron, for many different reasons. One being, he called her a mudblood.
She shook her head violently to keep the thoughts of Ron and Harry out of her head. She would rather focus on the below freezing wind than those two boys.
She then saw a half oval shape from a distance and half smiled. She slightly knew where she was. She was near the graveyard, in Godric's Hallow. She knew that she had to come here because she had an idea that the sword was located here.
She began to walk a little bit faster once she gained a little confidence. She heard bells chiming from all around her. She felt more cheerful than she usually did, and even found her face stretching a smile.
Hermione found herself thinking about Harry again. She had hoped that he was alright, and that nothing bad has happened to him. She had also hoped that he realizes how much he hurts her, even when he it isn't deliberate. She suddenly saw a figure, standing directly in front of her. She had no idea how the figure came to be, but she stopped and just stared at it. It nearly mirrored her movements, but began to move closer to her.
The figure, was brought into the light wear a familiar face was seen. A face that Hermione wasn't too sure about swing right now. She pressed her lips together and froze, as Harry's body vanished into the wind. He was just an illusion.
Hermione actually, did want him to be with her right now. She just wanted to hug somebody right now, but more importantly wanted to be hugged by another. She frowned as she looked down into the hard, compacted white snow that mocked her while being able to stay together. Hermione was anything but together. She was falling apart.
