Rory POV.

Detroit, 2003.

I had been in Detroit for almost a week now and had decided to stay with my mom, she had convinced me and after talking it over with Logan I realized I had made the right decision.

Flashback

"And in the end I think my mom is right, it's best I stay with her and not Marshall" I mumbled and waited patiently for a response from Logan on the phone.

Logan had taken it well that Marshall and I were friends and that I had gone to his concert with Ethan. He didn't know about the daily phone calls but there were certain things that didn't need to be said.
And with the trip and staying at Marshall's house he had acted pretty relaxed about it too.

"Damn baby you don't know how happy I am to hear that!" he said in a cheerful tone.

"Logan if it was something that bothered you why did you tell me?"

"You know I don't like to control you, you're free to do what you want and I know you respect me and what we have! But it does make me feel better to know that you're not going to stay with him!"

My relationship with Logan was like that, he rarely questioned what I did. It also had a lot to do with the fact that he was rarely home, he traveled for two weeks every month.
I also knew he trusted me a lot. It was easy to be with him. But I would really like to have him at home more, not to feel so lonely.
.
.

"Stop!" I heard Ethan yell laughing bringing me out of my thoughts as he played with my brother Jeremy, they were 4 years apart so they got along great.

"So what are your plans?" my mom said to me raising an eyebrow.

I felt like a teenager again, my mom asking me to explain myself but I understood her, she had always been very protective.

"I'm going to Marshall's house, we're having a day at the pool" I saw how worried she looked at me so I hurried to speak "everyone is going mom, Sharonda, DeShaun and their kids and Marshall's daughters will be there."

"And are you sure about taking Jeremy too?"

"Yes mom, no problem, there will be more kids and I know they will have a good time."

"You've been here almost a week and you've only seen Sharonda, I thought Marshall would be the first to see you" she said out of the blue.

Marshall hadn't said anything to me, but I was sure that me not staying at his house had upset him, he had even stopped texting me so I was surprised to see that he had sent me one in the morning, telling me about the plan.

"I don't know, I guess he was busy" I said trying to sound disinterested so my mom wouldn't ask me anything else.

A few hours later I got a message and I couldn't help but feel a strange excitement.

From: Marshall

"I'm outside"

I quickly told my brother and son and helped them with their stuff, we said goodbye to everyone and headed out.

I watched as Marshall got out of his SUV as soon as he saw me carrying thousands of things.

"MARSHALL!" I heard my son yell and run out to greet him.

"Hey buddy" I greeted him smiling and watched as they both high-fived each other.

Marshall quickly came over to me to help me with the backpacks.
